Cycling (Road) 1:01:00 [2]

Easy spin.

Thursday Sep 29, 2005 #

Note

5th off day in September - not good.

Wednesday Sep 28, 2005 #

Running (Road) 37:00 [2]

Over to Y and back.

Gym (Weights) 25:00 [3]

If it's fall, it must be time to start lifting again. Two moderate sets just to get used to the motions again.

Tuesday Sep 27, 2005 #

Paddling (Canoe) 53:00 [3]

With Doug and Vicki Vojak. Definately going faster with all three of us in the boat, but not as smooth.

Running (Road) 43:00 [3]

On CCL bike path with Nadim who is in town for a couple days. Getting pretty dark by the end.

Monday Sep 26, 2005 #

Running (Road) 55:00 [3]

About 7 miles on the Forest Park bike path, the last 2 at 10K pace.

Orienteering (Park) 30:09 [5] *** 5.2 km (5:48 / km) +80m 5:23 / km
spiked:13/12c

Halfway through the bike path run, I ran one of the loops from the Forest Park Relay (1:10). Ran hard the whole way. One sloppy leg, although the time lost was minimal.

Sunday Sep 25, 2005 #

Note

Rained all day as the remnants of Rita moved through. Annie is still here and it seemed like a good day for just sitting around and watching Baby-O. At least my hip feels better.

Saturday Sep 24, 2005 #

Running (Trail) 1:00:00 [1]

My sister Annie is in town. We went for a brisk hike at Castlewood.

Friday Sep 23, 2005 #

Running (Road) 1:08:00 [3]

Lunchtime run. Hip hurts a lot when walking, but not at all running. Wierd.

Thursday Sep 22, 2005 #

Running (Road) 52:00 [2]

Summer's back big time. Slow lunchtime run.

Orienteering (Woods/Night) 1:52:00 [2]

Night training using the trim markers at Rockwoods Range (1:15). None too speedy, but quite accurate. Tripped on a log hidden by undergrowth and seem to have messed up my hip a bit.

Wednesday Sep 21, 2005 #

Running (Road) 49:00 [3]

Lunchtime run with Jeff. Was supposed to be an easy run since he's starting his taper for the Chicago Marathon, but we ended up going our usual pace.

Tuesday Sep 20, 2005 #

Running (Mix) 1:17:00 [3]

Powerline loop plus a couple extra miles at lunch.

Paddling (Canoe) 55:00 [3]

With Doug up front at CC Lake. We're working together better and actually started moving reasonably fast.

Sunday Sep 18, 2005 #

Running (Road) 1:05:00 [3]

Forgot to give David Welsh the maps for the meet he's directing when I saw him last night, so I went out the the Lewis & Clark Marathon this morning to give them to him. He was running the half and said he wanted to go some more to get his distance into the low 20's. I ran about 8 miles with him on the Katy Trail.

Cycling (Trail) 1:26:00 [3]

Then I put in some miles on the bike. I'll call it trail, since the Katy is gravel and I was riding my mountain bike.

Saturday Sep 17, 2005 #

Paddling (Canoe) 1:34:00 [2]

AM: With Doug Nishimura in the front. Getting a bit better at handling the back of the boat although I still like my seat up front better. Fog was so thick at the start you could hardly see past the bow. Lifted after about half an hour.

Running (Trail) 28:00 [2]

PM: Warmup/down.

Orienteering (Woods) 38:08 [4] *** 5.0 km (7:38 / km)

Rockwoods Test Loop (1:15). Woods are still about 5-10% slower than normal, so this is a solid but not great time. Could have been a minute faster if I hadn't drifted off line in some thick stuff.

Orienteering race (Park/Night) 33:47 [3] **

Kirkwood Night-O with Baby-O in the jogger. With David directing the meet and most of the other fast folks taking kids with them, we managed to get fast time. Baby-0's first win at 2 years, 43 days.

Friday Sep 16, 2005 #

Running (Mix) 1:37:00 [2]

Not sure really how to classify this one. I was trying to see if the powerline cut was a viable route from Creve Coeur Park to Olivette. Lots of running on the line and parallel roads as well as some poking around in woods looking for ways to get through the really thick stuff. Maybe call it adventure running without a map.

Wednesday Sep 14, 2005 #

Running (Mix) 50:00 [3]

Shortened version of the powerline loop at lunch with an extended stop at my house because the piano tuner wanted to talk to me about the fact that the action is dead on my piano. Well, that probably has to do with the fact that it's been sitting idle at my parents' house for the last 20 years. Pianos get out of shape, too.

Tuesday Sep 13, 2005 #

Running (Road) 38:00 [3]

Lunchtime run with Jeff. Includes 3 miles in 22:00.

Monday Sep 12, 2005 #

Running (Road) 1:00:00 [2]

To/From the Big Shark meeting (starting at the old house - no it's not sold yet).

Orienteering (Park/Night) 43:00 [4] ***

On the way back, I went through Forest Park (1:10) and did a control picking course (25 controls). I had my HID, but decided to run with just my tiny LED that gives enough light to read the map and that's about it. It took a surprising amount of concentration to run clean with so little light. Couldn't see the actual control locations until I was right on top of them. Really fun exercise.

Sunday Sep 11, 2005 #

Orienteering (Woods) 1:40:00 [3] ***

Cuivre River (1:15), Northwoods section. A 2.5K control picking course to warm up, then some easy jogging, then an old Red course. Started at 7AM. It was mid 80's by the time I finished.

CR is reasonably fast year round, although there is still a fair bit of undergrowth (some of which hid a fence that I went down hard on). Smoothest I've been so far this fall, though still plenty of room for improvement.

Saturday Sep 10, 2005 #

Orienteering (Woods) 1:10:00 [3] ***

Thought about setting some sprint courses in honor of the finals, but my legs aren't up to that yet. Ran about 8K at Rockwoods (1:15). Pretty clean, but I haven't found my groove yet. Still starting and stopping a lot.

Friday Sep 9, 2005 #

Running (Mix) 1:06:00 [3]

Powerline loop at lunch. Not quite as fast as usual, but it felt like running again. I think the downhill mile might have been under 8 minutes.

Thursday Sep 8, 2005 #

Running (Road) 46:00 [2]

Easy lunchtime run. Someday in the distant future, I might again run a mile in under 8 minutes.

Wednesday Sep 7, 2005 #

Orienteering (Woods/Night) 1:56:00 [2] **

Night training at Lost Valley (USGS 1:24) which hasn't opened up yet. Navigated as well as one could expect given that it was thick and nighttime on a USGS. Still, it was thick and nighttime on a USGS, so it kinda sucked.

Tuesday Sep 6, 2005 #

Running (Road) 47:00 [2]

Easy (and hot) lunchtime run with Jeff. He wasn't in any hurry either as he did his longest run ever (20 miles prepping for the Chicago Marathon) on Sunday.

Monday Sep 5, 2005 #

Cycling (Road) 2:02:00 [2]

Easy spinning. Surpringly, I'm less sore and stiff today than I was yesterday. I would have expected the opposite. Probably another 2-3 days of recovery and I can get back to some quality workouts.

Sunday Sep 4, 2005 #

Cycling (Road) 1:00:00 [2]

Easy spin to loosen up. Stiff, but in OK shape after yesterday. I expect I'll feel a lot worse tomorrow.

Saturday Sep 3, 2005 #

Running race (Mix) 8:53:00 [2] 50.0 mi (10:40 / mi)

Flatlander 12-hour. Had a bad patch with overheating at around 7 hours (2:30 PM - 88 degrees). Took it easy for an hour and then got back on pace. Course was officially a bike path, but I ran mostly on the grass next to the path. Full report.

Running race (Mix) 2:51:00 [1] 10.2 mi (16:46 / mi)

Figured 50 in under 9 was a good day and I wasn't sure if any real damage had been done by the overheating. Would have just packed it in but I was also trying to raise money for MDA with per mile pledges, so I walked the rest to get my total up over 60.

Friday Sep 2, 2005 #

Running (Road) 37:00 [2]

Easy lunchtime run.
