running 1:10:00 [2]

Shuffling around on campus with my 1:10000 Lawrence map. I need to do some field checking. There are lots of interesting generalization decisions for a 1:10000 map of an area that is suited to 1:4000 sprint mapping.

I felt ok for about 45-50 minutes, then felt tired/hot. When I got home I checked the current weather at the Lawrence airport. It was 81F and 75F dewpoint. Not especially pleasant, but at least not so hot.

running 25:00 [2]

Shuffled around on West Campus after work. It was hot. I moved slowly. Better than nothing.

I also cut my hair today. That was a challenge. It is hard enough that you have to use two mirrors to see yourself, but when you also have to wear glasses to see...well, it is just randomly pushing around the clippers and occasionally stopping to see what's happened. I'm sure I'll get better with more practice.

Mary is getting take out BBQ tonight. I think we will have beans.

I was going to slog around for a short jog in the heat. Then Mary said that she was going for a bike ride. So I joined her. Then I did a bit extra on my own.

More and more students are in town.

I had an odd day. I was supposed to present a report. I went to the office. The building is mostly empty. The meeting started with a bunch of public comment that apparently centered around the need to have high school sports despite not meeting the "gating criteria" the health director established. We just monitor the meeting coverage and head up to the room when we're up next. We headed up to the meeting room and....they looked at the clock and deferred the rest of the items until next week. I got all dressed up (tie and sport coat) and didn't get my time. I'll be back next week.

Blackboarding.

I didn't get a lot of work done, but I got some things done that I hadn't understood how to do. I'm a lot better at Blackboard than I was a year ago, but I'm still far from an expert.

The class is full online this semester. That was planned even before the pandemic. But, for a variety of reasons - mostly pandemic uncertainty - actually moving the entire course online didn't get started until a few weeks ago.

It'll be interesting to see how it works. I'm cautiously optimistic and it is fun to learn some of the technology.

No beans and no running today.

I went out and rolled around on the pavement. More people are returning to town. I spotted as much bad driving today as I've seen in the last month or two.

Kind of hot, but I felt pretty good.

running 1:20:00 [2]

Easy shuffle around on campus. I carried my map. The are lots of little things that need work - driveways not shown and some uncrossable walls, for example. I need to sit down and send a few hours making those changes. But that'll wait for a while.

I was ready to run a little after 7 a.m. But a storm was going through with plenty of lightning. I watched the lightning maps until it looked safe. The storm didn't really drop temperatures or humidity, but the clouds made things ok. A bit of rain fell while I was running, but not much. The low last night was 76F. That's not very nice.

My legs felt a little dead, but I was just shuffling around slowly so I guess it didn't matter.

I had no beans yesterday. But I had beans with lunch today.

Note

I went through some of the AP thread on OUSA recs about having events during the pandemic. I wish people would preface their observations and opinions with sources. Like, "I read a local news story about x, y, z" or "my neighbor's brother's friend said...." or "the latest Nature had a paper about..."
