Green at Hard Labor Creek.

My legs and running felt ok. I was pleasantly surprised that my calf was ok.

I saw Nathan Jones from West Point off and on.

One small-ish boom when I misunderstood the contour interval (I was thinking, "climb a line" but forgot that a line was only 2.5 m). Also one mind-wandering-but-didn't-cost-any-time.

Note to self for the next time we run on this map:

Ditches and gullies were no trouble to cross. Some ditches were really small. Having 3 levels of ditches isn't necessary. Treat ditch symbols more like indicators that there are some ditchy-things, don't try to use them to really navigate.

Rocks - there are some legit rocks. But there are also lots of very small rock features mapped.

Just focus on contours.

Green course at Hard Labor Creek State Park.

The map used 2.5 m contours, so the hills weren't as big as they looked at first glance.

I had some trouble with understanding the ditches and the odd little rockwalls shown in the ditches. I got confused and lost some time at 3.

Joe Barrett showed me his blue course map at 1:15,000. It was quite hard for me to read.

In the last third of the course, my right calf started feeling tight. It was worse after running. Then, it got better late in the afternoon. Better than it had been for a couple of weeks. That was odd.

I struggled to understand the contours in the first couple of legs. I missed the 1st control when I looked up and thought the reentrant wasn't right. I was so confused by how it looked compared to what I expected that I went back and tried again.

My calf was ok, a little tight near the end. I think I eased off on the effort as a way of subconciously protecting my calf. But the motivation also was a bit low after a big miss at the first control.

Fun.
