Slough Creek map: I didn't get anything done on the map during the week. I did a bit this morning. I added a few vegetation boudaries from the 2014 air photo. I added some small streams from the lidar (a mix of ground relief and ground slope images) and looking at the 1983 map.

I was also looking at the current Google map photos and spotted a new parking lot that wasn't there in 2014. I used Mappuzzle to get the new photo and sketch in the parking lot. I could have done it just by eyeballing and that would have been fine. Using Mappuzzle was really a waste of time, but it is still good practice or something.

It is tempting to go out to Slough Creek today to take a look and jog around a bit. The weather is nice (61F right now). But, I know that the woods would be impassable, the trail coated in spider webs, and that I'd go through poison ivy. I think I'll go and jog trails at Clinton instead.

Easy trail run at Clinton. I carried the map and looked at it occasionally.

Nice day - temp in upped 60s when I ran - but I only saw one other person on the trails.

Running felt good, but I felt more tired than I should have the last 15 minutes. Maybe I'll still a little run down or tired or something. I did sleep almost 11 hours last night.

running 20:00 [2]

I shuffled around a little bit on West Campus.

In other news, Mary got home today. That's good.

And in other news, I forgot to add it to my last biking training entry, but I saw a white bunny along the bike path.

93F when I got home. Too hot. I decided a bit of a bike path ride beat a slogging jog on West Campus. Fun.

I rolled around on the bike paths including passing by Baker Wetlands. Weather was hot, but not so terrible as the sun got lower. The wetlands were looking good - a hint of fall.

Got a flu shot today, too.

Note

Slough Creek update.

I've been adding features that are clearly visible in the lidar (like stream beds and some old trails) and are on the old map. It isn't very fun, but it is nice to see some progress.

I also drew in the approximate boundary of the public land. I did that by eyeballing the county GIS parcel viewer and matching it with the air photo template. Some of the boundaries are unexpected - like at an angle through the middle of a field.

Biking on the bike path to/from the arboretum.

Recently I've been trying to get out the door earlier, but I didn't today.

I jogged (slowly) trough a couple of courses at the arboretum. At each control, I picked a route and picked some key features along the way, then folded up the map and ran without looking at it.

The late start and the arbo terrain made things tough. It was warm and muggy. The course was almost entirely in the sun. After about 25 minutes, I was feeling hot. I thought about stopping, but decided to just ease off the slow pace and keep going. I guess I'm glad I did that.
