orienteering 55:00 intensity: (39 @1) + (2:29 @2) + (5:41 @3) + (46:11 @4) 6.24 km (8:49 / km)

Green course at _____ map (I can't remember the name and don't have a copy handy).

I had a mostly clean run. I might have lost some time on a couple of route choices.

I wasn't moving quickly, but I think I was moving about as well as I can at altitude and given my current shape.

I watched people at the start. You could see them for most of the first leg. You could see a fence and a fence corner on the way to the first leg. I watched people on my course and saw that they headed just right of the fence corner, so I was surprised when I started running and saw that actually I wanted to go left of the fence corner. I think a couple of the other courses went a bit more to the right, so maybe the green course starters I watched were just pulled that way.

I looked at my h.r. during a run a bit. It seems like altitude makes a given h.r. (for me) have the effect of about an extra 10+ beats faster. So running at 160 h.r. was more like running at 170 h.r.

Twin Boulders green course. I managed today much better than yesterday. Running uphill and in some of the sage was really just walking. I can't currently do better at the altitude.

My mind was working much better than yesterday. That was kind of surprising because I slept poorly last night.

Navigation was ok. A couple of weaker route choices, but otherwise ok.

Best to just forget today and look ahead to tomorrow.

On the bright side, I closed some of the gap with Cristina-bot.

Green course at Granite Planite.

Altitude is difficult but I handled it about as well as could be expected. Walked a good bit.

The area is fun - good runnability, good visibility, and flat.

I had a clean run and was mostly navigating well. I lost a few seconds at the next to last control when I saw the boulders and the green but didn't see the little outcrop.

My left calf has a strange tighness. I noticed it walking and warming up, but it wasn't really a problem running.

running 30:00 [2]

Jogging on West Campus.

A storm came through and dumped a bit of rain, but then the sky cleared up and the sun came out. Humidity went way up.

orienteering 15:00 [2]

On the way out the door I picked up a map that had a couple of very short control picking courses on it. I did the two courses. I got a lot of sweat in my eyes. I forgot my sweat band.

Before the orienteering I stopped by Pioneer Cemetery. It took us over a year to actually get the marker for Dad ordered and in place. It is there now. The mock up version had "US Army" and I made sure that was corrected to "US Air Force."
