running 1:00:00 [2]

I got myself out the door at 7:05 a.m. before the heat. It was still muggy (76F at the start, 80F at the finish, and humid). But, it was not too terrible.

I saw Mary when I was almost finished. I didn't see any coyotes.

I'm looking forward to the Fall and Winter when I can relax with a cup of coffee and do some reading before getting a mid/late morning start to my run.

I've been in touch with Fritz and Tiara about maps for the Sunflower Games Adventure Race. I gave them the OK map of Woodridge (where we have a permanent course) and a KP map + OSM map that shows the Bloomington peninsula. I hope they can make use of the maps and I hope they will use better maps in the future. Tiara's events usually use crappy USGS maps.

A little time rolling around on my bike. Crappy hot again.

Ad Astra hosted a fun run to replace the 5K race. It was fun, but wow was it uncomfortable. I shuffled around north Lawrence for 30 minutes. I carried my 1:10,000 map of north Lawrence (south of the tracks) and made a few notes to make some changes.

It was warm when we ran. Warmer than the current weather:

Lawrence, KS (66047)
Fair
99°F (feels like 114°F)
Humidity: 48%, Winds: 10mph
Useful Daylight: 5:26 AM – 9:22 PM

Note

Day off to rest for tomorrow's 5K (and to mow the lawn)....but, they've called of the 5K because of the forecast. The forecast high for tomorrow is 101F and there is an "excessive heat warning." Instead of the 5K, there will be a fun run in the neighborhood, so that'll be nice...and by nice I mean horribly hot, but a lot better than even pretending to race.

West Campus jog. Humid out there after the mid-day storm.

I planned to mow the lawn, but when I got home I decided it could go a couple more days and the weather was so nice it'd be much better to go for a short bike ride.

I biked on the bike path to/from the movie theater. Fun.

running 1:30:00 intensity: (1:15:00 @2) + (15:00 @4)

On the trails at Clinton SP from the beach. I included 4 x HE.

I felt pretty good. Getting out early-ish was a good idea as the temp was not too terrible. On the other hand, I had more spider webs to deal with than I'd wanted or expected.

I saw some trail hawks working on the trail, including Gary Henry. I also saw a rattlesnake. I must have almost stepped on the snake. I didn't see it until I heard movement and rattling right next to me. I stopped and looked back and saw the rattlesnake.
