Note

Something wrong. Kind of like when we were at LA on the way to New Zealand, but not as bad.

Note

Stayed up a bit too late last night and have a bunch of stuff to do today (laundry, packing, making dinner)...so I'm taking a day off. With tomorrow's travel, it'll be two days off in a row. I'll push the 31 day challenge to at least February 2.

A short night line orienteering on the soccer fields on West Campus. The challenge was to navigate on a flat area using features off in the distance, like lone trees or buildings. It was fun, though I got off the line a couple of times.

It was good preparation for the main activity of the evening - going to Allen FH to watch KU - Iowa State.

Mary set 6 little courses on 6 little maps at Pioneer Cemetery. Each little course ended at the start triangle for the next little course. This was a lot of fun and a good way to get some training out of a little map.

Score O' at SMP.

It was just above freezing and rainy. I was dressed perfectly for the run, but my hands and feet got cold between finishing and going to pick up markers.

I felt pretty good running. Better than I've felt in a while.

I had one leg where I wasn't thinking very well - more running and reading when I should be reading and running. I had a miss at 9. I spotted an earth bank from the road and mistook it for the cliff and headed straight to it. I saw my error as soon as I crossed the little frozen stream. To correct I just followed the stream (solid ice) to the control. Sloppy.

I finished about 15-20 seconds behind Dean H. Except, it turns out Dean ran from 8 to 11 without stopping to go to 12 and punch. If he'd done that, we would have been closer at the finish - not sure if I'd have gotten him or not.
