MTB cycling 1:00:00 [1]

MTB on the bike paths to/from the trail head at Clinton.

The temp was rising and it was pretty warm by the time I was done. I probably should have gotten started a little earlier instead of sleeping late and then tracking Mary's flight to Newark.

On the trails at Clinton overlook.

The Trailhawks had some sort of event going on. I saw plenty of runners on te trails and waved to Kara and Matt at the trailhead.

I included 2 x HU/ML/HE.

I didn't bring a sweat band. When I'd turn my head down to look at the map I got sweat in my eyes.

I'm tired now.

On the river trails. I felt pretty good and seemed to be riding reasonably well technically. That was nice.

Note

Today was the last day of a 5-day leadership training at JoCo. It was interesting. The subject matter was the normal sort of leadership and organizational change stuff as you would expect. But, it actually feels like JoCo takes this stuff seriously and actually means to use these approaches. It might not be just the flavor of the month. It was interesting to learn, for example, that over the last 5 years, they've had about 2500 employees go through 3 or 5 day training sessions. From talking to people in other departments, some of the ideas are getting traction in their departments.

The difference in organizational cultures between JoCo and Lawrence is stunning.

Note

I did a short presentation on orienteering as part of the Ad Astra Off-Road Running Clinic. I felt a bit unprepared and have no idea how it went, but at least a few more people know something about orienteering.

Eric B and Bill L arrived in Lawrence (today, not August 9!) and we had a good chat in the back yard as it got dark. Fun. Eric is on his way out to Leadville to run 100 miles and Bill is his crew.

Rolling around on the MTB on pavement and gravel. I worked hard a few times.

running 1:30:00 [2]

Easy jog on the trails at Clinton SP. I started from the parking lot up the hill from the road that goes down to Lake Henry.

My stomach wasn't great, but otherwise I felt pretty good.

I carried the in-progress map printed at 1:10,000 and was surprised how much I could read without my magnifier.
