orienteering 29:16 [3] 3.39 mi (8:38 / mi) +45m 8:17 / mi

Long (5.1 km) sprint-like course on Gene's newest map - Four Lawrence Parks.

Running felt difficult, but it was a lot of fun to run on a new map. The weather was relatively comfortable.

Scott N. beat me by a bit over 30 seconds. I'll have to check the winsplits, but my guess is most of that was on the longer road legs (11, 12 and 14).

We had a pretty good turnout (something like 28 starts). To put that into context, the equivalent portion of the metro population for Seattle would be 886 people.

After the run, we had a small potluck as a going-away for Grover and Carolyn (moving to Tuscon in a few weeks). That helped bring out a few old timers. The Gogols were in attendance, but I didn't get a chance to chat with them. I think they must have been on a schedule or something and

We also had some good help from Kjrsten and Cory at registration and Nathan was a big help with control pick up (I'm probably missing some other people who helped with control pick up).

MTB on the river trails after work. Work is strange. Riding my MTB was fun.

Work commute. I mowed when I got home.

I also spent some time looking at the GPS tracking from the MTBO world champs.

running 30:00 [2]

Slow running on West Campus. The heat wasn't too terrible, but it was hotter than I'd expected and that was kind of a drag.

I also discovered something interesting today....Lidar data from Missouri that covers Crowder State Park.

Work commute. My legs felt a little bit tired from the hard running Sunday.

running 15:00 [2]

I picked up a few controls. By this time the temp was a bit higher, I was a still warm from running, and the sun was out. I felt terrible by the time I was done (which was only about 15 minutes).

Mary spotted me looking overheated and gave me a map case full of ice to put on my head and neck. That was very nice.

Sunflower State Games at Gage Park in Topeka. Fritz set a fun course (except for 7 to 8...that was just a chore).

Conditions were warm and humid. I ran better than I'd expected. I pushed a bit too hard on the way to 8 and suffered a bit on the rest of the course.

Fritz put out a bunch of extra controls in the rose garden. That meant you could just head to a marker you spotted. You had to actually read the map. That was a good idea.

A former USMAOC orienteer showed up. Christian Robbins. He ran pretty fast, but with a little bit of rough navigation. He's at Fort Riley so maybe we'll see him at some more of the local events.
