running 1:00:00 [2]

Jogging on the trails at Clinton. Fun and felt ok.

I got started a little later than planned because I watched Venla. Fortunately, the conditions today are a bit better than yesterday. It was warm, but didn't feel too terrible.

I listened to the Radio Oringen podcast with Maja Alm. I figured I'd have to listen to it 3 or 4 times to make sure I understood the Danish. But, it turned out to be in English.

cycling 30:00 [1]

Cycling. Biking home from Cycleworks with the repaired MTB and then biking to/from my June tiny mapping project.

I did about an hour of fieldchecking. I made some progress but still need another 30-60 minutes to finish the map. After that I'll probably still need to do some quality assurance, but it'd be in pretty good shape - certainly enough to be used for some informal training.

I was mapping in the heat of the day and I think it was a bit too much for me. I was feeling very wiped out early in the evening and went to be well before Jukola ended.

cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute. The trip home was kind of crappy. The temp was 97F and the "heat index" was 110F.

When I got home I did some work in the back yard, which was also kind of crappy.

On the good side, my MTB is ready and I'll pick it up tomorrow.

Half followed today's race in Finland:

Fun to see Emily Kemp's race. Also fun to see that the announcers recognize that it isn't a surprise.

Just the work commute. I figured a day off would be ok and it was kind of crappy outside. Though it is probably going to be worse tomorrow and over the weekend.

running 1:00:00 [2]

I drove to work today and headed straight to the trail at Clinton after work. It was hot (99F) and more humid than I'd like. But, I stayed in the shade and shuffled along slowly. I drank an entire water bottle over just an hour of jogging.

The Trailhawks were just starting their hills when I got back to the car. It looked like they had a good turnout - maybe 8 or 9 people. Crazy nut jobs running in the heat.

Note

M Bostrom's periscope while doing some Jukola training was fun.

cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute. I had to stay at work a little bit late.

rowing 20:00 [1]

Row, row.

After biking home I was too overheated to have the motivation to go outside and jog. But, I had enough motivation to sit on the rowing machine in the cool basement and in front of a fan.

cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute.

A storm came through in mid afternoon and dropped the temp (around 75F at about 3 p.m.). The rain ended by the time I was biking home and the temp was going up. It was very humid. I spent some time when I got home pulling weeds in the back yard and got completely drenched in a couple of minutes.

running 1:30:00 [2]

Another slow run on the trails at Clinton. We got started before the heat was too terrible, but I was feeling over heated by the end. Not much to do about that.

I also spent some time today watching the GPS tracks from the Swedish WOC test races. It was fun to see Anna Bachman do so well. I don't know her, but have been following her after Jenny mentioned her a few years ago (and started paying more attention when AB started running for IFK Lidingo). I don't think she was on the tracking but Emily Kemp's race was pretty good. I don't think there's ever been a North American at her level. Maybe Ted's best races but I don't think he was ever at the consistently high level of Kemp.

Just watching the tracking in real time is a fun way to get a feel for the terrain and maps. I only raced in that general area of Sweden once or twice.

I also spent a bunch of time half-watching the rerun of 10 Mila coverage. Fun. I love the running camera shots and Kalle and Lisa in the forest.

Now time to get some useful orienteering stuff done....some map drafting.
