MTB Orienteering 45:00 [2] ***
7c

I drew a course on a map at Perry. I had a couple of little bobbles with the map reading. Both times it was because I was biking along a trail and the control locations was a bend, but I just sort of forgot to look for the bend.

I did a fair amount of pushing the bike on the rocky areas. I'm especially weak at going up a hill with rocks. There were some areas like that on today's course.

After the course, I just biked around on the trails. I did one loop 4 x. The trail was mostly flat and there were only a few obstacles (rocks and/or roots) to deal with. The first time I biked the loop I had to stop twice. But, the other times I was able to ride the entire way (and I didn't fall off either).

I definitely have trouble with rocks on uphill sections of the trail. I also have a tendency to start looking just in front of where I'm riding when I think I should probably keep looking further ahead. Plenty to work on.

Fun.

On the river trails right after work. Fun ride.

I feel like I've improved at dealing with sand. I still don't like it and when it is soft it causes problems for me. But, I'm more comfortable with biking on sand and especially on turns. Just by writing that I'm pretty much expecting to crash on a sandy curve the next time I bike the river trail.

I made it! I survived the work commute on the first day the dorms were open for all students. There was some crazy driving going on, but I managed to avoid cars:

1, Making a no-look mid-block illegal u-turn;
2. Coming to a dead stop in the middle of a right hand turn at an intersection and just parking;
3. Yielding when they had the right of way in a roundabout, then going, then stopping, then going; and
4. Driving the wrong way down the street.

Easy run on the trails at Clinton.

Very pleasant weather - about 70F when I started.

When I got back near the car I saw a bunch of Trail Hawks. I should remember to do a Wednesday night hill session with them. Maybe next week?

Work commute.

The trip home was wet. The NWS put out a tweet about the storm having the potential for 1-inch hail and 70 mph winds. It wasn't that, but it was wet and windy. I'd say it was a 6 on the Beaufort Scale.

rowing 20:00 [1]

I'd have run if there weren't so much lightning. Instead I did a row, row.

Work commute. The trip home was hot.

Also, more students back in town. At one stop sign I saw three in a row all go through the sign without even slowing. It is scary out there.

Also, I mowed. I saw a squirrel in the yard. It was not white.

running 1:30:00 [2]

Easy jogging on the trails at Clinton. I carried the map, but hardly looked at it.

I felt better than I'd expected. I wasn't moving quickly, but I'd expected to feel more drained than I did.

Mary returned home today.
