Longish MTB ride on the roads.

I watched the live TDF coverage and hoped that the temp wouldn't be too terrible by the time I got out on the roads. That worked pretty well. It was really muggy, but cloudy until the last 15 minutes of the ride. When the sun came out, the level of discomfort shot up. But I was nearly home, so it was no problem.

River trails after work. The far end is still closed from all of the rain. The return from the Mud Creek cutoff was fine. There was one very short muddy area and there were a number of new downed trees. On the way out I stopped and made some mapping notes. That kept the pace gentle.

Work commute.

Today was the annual downtown sidewalk sale. That meant lots of traffic downtown early in the morning. Not just lots of traffic, but lots of people driving and paying attention to parking spaces instead of driving.

Planned to do 35 minutes. After 10 minutes the heat was getting to me. I turned around and slogged home.

Work commute. Crummy hot and humid weather. My lunch time walk was not very comfortable.

When I got home today I mowed.

Work commute.

The trip home was interesting. I checked the temp when I left work - 98F. Within two blocks it began to rain. The rain picked up as I went but it didn't really cool things off much. When I got home the temp was 92F. Usually when a storm pops up like that the temp drops a bunch and it is very refreshing. Today it was just wet and hot.

The rain was enough to keep me from mowing the lawn when I got home.

Jogging around at the Arbo putting out controls for today's event. At 7 a.m. it was already uncomfortable. Temp was ok (uppers 70s) but it was warming up quickly and the humidity was not pleasant (dew point was 70).

We had a decent turnout (23 starts) with a good bunch of first timers (I think 12). As best I can tell, everyone went home with a good experience.

The biggest surprise was that Grafton Potter was there! He has retired and is moving to NTOA land. Not quite as big a surprise was that Fritz was there.

Big thanks to the early helpers - Marv, Gene and Sandy. Marv especially had to get up early and drive an hour to help (and I think Marv had to sacrifice Sunday Pancake Day at his house).

Also, thanks to everyone who helped pick up markers. I know Paul and Matt did a lot of the marker pickup . I think Dick, Reta and Gene also picked up some markers and/or helped take things down.

Note

As an aside...I don't understand how the NFL can't just get its act together and behave decently.

"Though the Washington team president, Bruce Allen, told the media the organization is prepared to appeal the ruling all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court."

MTBO on a course that Mary set for the last park/sprint event on West Campus. Fun, short course with lots of controls. I think I could run the course faster.
