running 1:10:00 [2]

I went to Olathe to check out Lone Elm Park. I first noticed the area last year when I saw that someone had used it for a series of MTB races. I finally got around to putting together a quick lidar basemap and went to check it out.

It is a small area 800m x 800m. The forest doesn't look good, but there are open areas and a nice trail network. The area is flat. Even with 1.25 meter contours it looks flat. A stream runs through the middle of the park. The trail network is what makes the area interesting. I think you could actually have some interesting, but short, MTB orienteering courses. The trails are wide and would be easy to ride on.

I took enough notes during and after the run that I can create a quick training map.

cycling 45:00 [1]

Just the work commute. It was windy, especially for the trip to work.

Work commute.

running 20:00 [2]

A short jog. I felt a lot better than I did the last time I ran. So that's good.

cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute. Hot for the trip home.

I figured out how to get the JoCo lidar LAS files from the national map viewer. That was a good thing to discover.

cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute. On the way home I was nearly cut off by a goof ball driving along Jayhawk Blvd while using a smart phone.

Coincidentally, the NTSB had a day long conference on distracted driving today.

running 25:00 [2]

Jogging around on West Campus a bit. It felt uncomfortably hot.

Travel day from Summer and Sila's house to Lawrence. Then, row, row.

orienteering race 43:49 [4] ***

Middle green course at Carter Caves. This was kind of a strange run. I had a few swings but no control misses. I also just wasn't working very hard. I'm not sure why, just lazy I guess. But it was a lot of fun.
