Note

A bit over an hour of field checking at Rockhaven. I was using OOM on the Kindle. I'm definitely getting more comfortable with the software and hardware.

Most of what I was doing was bashing through junky vegetation to make notes about stream beds and ditches. I also did a quick section of junky area that was a mix of rough open, scattered trees, green, and undergrowth.

I need to do a bunch of work on the rock features, but I hadn't generated the cliffs in OL Laser. Without those, it is a bit of a waste of time to try to map the rock.

I ran on trails at Rockhaven. I carried a contours only map and spent a good bit of time looking at it.

I decided to re-do the Rockhaven map. I made the current version when I understood much less of how to get info from the lidar data. I think I was using just the bare earth returns and QuickGrid to generate contours. The new version will use the LAS files and OL Laser to generate the contours. I'll also draw the new version in Open Orienteering Mapper. I think the end result will be a better and easier to read map. I'm going to use a lot of the field work from the old map to save time and effort.

cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute. It was warmer in the a.m. than when I biked home, but the strong tail wind was really nice.

Note

running 2:35:00 [2]

Long easy run on the trails at Perry. I took frequent walking breaks - anytime there was a steep and/or rocky uphill and on gentle climbs that were longer than about 40 meters.

Started out comfortable (55F) with steady but light rain/mist. Then it stopped raining. Then near the end the wind arrived suddenly, steady mist returned, and the temp fell. At the car, the temp was 46F. So the temp must have fallen nearly 10F in about 15 minutes. Raymond would have been prepared with his "cagoule" (sp?). I was prepared with a light jacket in my pack.

I ran on some of the far northern trails that I'd never been on before. I carried a rough map - lidar contours and most of the trails added with GPS tacks of the last few years.

I kept the pace very easy. But I was definitely tired the last 15-20 minutes.
