orienteering race 29:56 [4] *** 5.3 km (5:39 / km)
16c

PTOC season opener at Longview. Since the fall has been so late and the trees are still mostly green, the course was set to keep us out of the woods. That was very nice. I'd expected to be fighting through horrible thick forest and I didn't have to do that. Aside from the distance, the course was simple and sprinty.

The first control had been moved. It took me a while to find it stuck in the bushes. I moved it back to the right location and staked it into the ground.

Running didn't feel good. Breathing was hard. It might be allergies? A good hard freeze would be nice.

MTB cycling 50:00 [1]

Checking out the condition of the trails and double checking a couple of control locations for Sunday's MTBO. Very nice out there. The trails are in good shape.

cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute. I worked at home in the afternoon because some remodeling next to my office was so noisy that I couldn't get anything done at the office.

running 1:05:00 [2]

Trail run at Clinton. I felt pretty good but got tired and the last 15 minutes was a chore despite running slowly.

I listened to some podcasts - Serial Podcast and half of the MTBPodden's interview with Jenny Rissveds.

cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute. Very pleasant (low 40s) for the trip to work, warmer afterwork. I worked hard to get home in time to watch the end of the Royals game. It really feels good to see the Royals playing so well. Normally the best part of each season to be a Royals fan is from about December through April, when you can dream a bit about how the season might go.

Note

I read some of the thread about GPS watches. Sometimes AP is really not much fun.

I hope that if OUSA looks at the issue, they'll try to think about how to reduce cheating not just how to ban GPS watches.

I'm reminded of our efforts (reportedly successful) to keep kids at the Interscholastic Champs a few years ago from working together in the forest. That way of thinking would be worth trying.

orienteering race 20:00 [4] ***

Sprint in Arnprior. I had a pretty good race. I'm not moving very fast even when working hard. I guess it takes more training!

orienteering 53:00 [4]

Much better run than yesterday and some of it went well. I can feel weaknesses both navigating and running. But today felt mostly good.

Sprint tomorrow.
