I was unsure about how I'd feel. I ran with the active ankle and told Mary that I would stop if I felt like what I was doing was STUPID. But, I'd keep going if it was just stupid. I actually felt basically fine. My foot/ankle didn't look noticeably worse after the run than before.

Troels set the course as part of Ulrik's two week US Champs prep and it was fun. 39 controls with lots of route choice and an emphasis on control locations.

Jenny, Mary, Ulrik, Barbara Sue and Ulrik ran.

The weather was unusual for May - about 42F and some light drizzle.

As I ran the course, I noticed the age of the map. It is fine from training, but I probably ought to do a bunch of updating.

MTB cycling 40:00 [1]

I decided to ride my MTB a little bit. I thought my ankle would be ok, especially if I didn't push it too hard.

OKers were planning to run Ulrik's Hill. So I biked up there and did the hill a couple of times. Mary and Jenny decided that the mix of rain, sleet and snow coupled with a strong north wind wasn't something they wanted to experience. Ulrik and I were the only ones on his hill tonight.

Note

The snow was very light when I took the video:

There are some nice photos of today's snow-out in KC. #RoyalsInFirst

Note

Ankle still swollen and black and blue. But it feels much better. Might try some easy biking tomorrow evening.

Note

Some reduced swelling. Black and blue doesn't look very nice, but I'm not as sore as I was yesterday. I think I'm on track to do a little light biking tomorrow or Friday.

Note

Resting and icing my ankle. The swelling is about the same as yesterday, but the discomfort is lower. I was walking around the office much better by the end of the day than the beginning.

WP middle day 2. I thought this was more fun than the first day...though it was a bit rougher and less pleasant. Both running and map reading were working better than the first day.

On the way to 12 I was comfortably ahead of the people I wanted to beat (Peter, Jenny and Anna) when I turned an ankle and that was pretty much the end of things. I "lost" a good 4.5 minutes over the last 10-12 minutes of the course because I was either not moving or moving slowly.

I'm guessing the ankle will be ok in a week or so, but that I'll be forced to race with an Active Ankle for the next few months. Oh well.

Oh yeah, despite being injured, I beat Anna.
