MTB cycling 50:00 [1]

On the river trails after work. The first 20 minutes it was light enough to ride without my lamps. Parts of the trail are still a bit rutted, but nothing like Monday. Fun ride. It felt good and it feels like my technique is improving.

Note

A reminder to myself - keep working on weighting the pedal on the outside a curves. I tend the be more evenly balanced and that seems to slow me down a little bit on curves.

cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute.

The morning temp wasn't too terrible, 14 F. But it was windy and it really felt cold. I also biked to a meeting in the morning and dealt with more cold wind.

The commute home was a warm up for tonight's training.

Mary designed a short sprint course on the KU Campus. Gene, Paul, Jenny, Mary, Ulrik and I ran. Fun.

Jenny beat me by 40 seconds.

Ulrik ran something like 10:30. That's pretty fast.

Work commute. Temp was 15F or so, but it felt colder this morning.

running 25:00 [2]

Short headlamp jog on the trails at West Campus. I didn't feel very good.

On the trails my shoes were making a funny sound. It was like:

Mee, kay, vey, lin,...mee, kay, vey, lin....

Then on the sidewalk near the house, they were making a different sound. It sounded like:

Beet, an, uh, beet, an, uh....

MTB cycling 30:00 [1]

MTB on the river trail. Temp was 20 with clouds and wind. That's about the limit for comfortable riding (and it wasn't so comfortable when I was facing the wind near the end).

I did an easy MTBO course. The problem is that the trails had a lot of frozen mud ruts. It wasn't so much fun to bike on the ruts and I felt a bit like I was going to get caught in a rut and crash. I didn't. The trails near the parking area where in good shape, but the trails in the mapped area were rutted.

2

I also noted that it is a lot harder to pay attention to the map when you are fighting with the ruts. I'm not a good enough rider that I can ride in rough terrain without having to think about the riding. Thinking about the riding technique means I'm not really thinking about the navigation.

Jogging around as a warm up. Legs felt a little tired but not sore.

Day 2. More open forest today than yesterday but not as interesting orienteering. I still don't understand the ditches.

My legs felt tired most of the time.

(Note the bad route to 8 costing a minute +).

At the airport I went through the scanner where you stand still and the machine scans you. I got in the scanner, put my feet on the little yellow foot symbols, put my hands up above my head and read the signs that said "3 Seconds." It is like the TSA is trying to taunt me.
