Trail run at Clinton. Easy pace. I carried a map and read it a bit until I met Mary on the trail and gave her the map (since she left hers in the car).
I stepped on a thorn at one point. It was fairly small as thorns go, but still hurt a bit.
I spent the morning at KU at presentations on analyzing big databases of text. I can see some interesting uses of this sort of thing at work. It also gives me another reason to learn some more about using R.
I figured out something about the various threads on the US champs and criticizing officials. Some posts focus on the idea that people involved in organizing are either good or bad. The conclusion that follows is that you ensure quality events by picking good people. That's the "fixed mindset" as opposed to the "growth mindset." The fixed mindset is illustrated by things like "girls aren't good at math" or "good job, you're really intelligent." The growth mindset involves recognizing effort rather than "talent." Reviewing people through the fixed mindset approach is a good way to screw people up. It is a bad way to improve things.

On the river trails. I has been a long time since I'd run on those trails. It was nice. My legs are kind of sore now and I'm not really sure why.
Trail run at Clinton. It was a 45 minute run but took me 50 because I was running so slowly. Some of that was the heat - 85F. Some of it was just a slow day.
Trail run at Clinton. Mary and I drove out and we went our separate ways on the trail. I kept the pace easy and enjoyed the day (really pleasant, cool weather). I felt good but stepped on something (a rock?) that bruised the ball of my right foot.
On the way home, we stopped at the Arboretum and I ran the current draft course and a little extra. It is a little long (3.2 km), but I think that's going to be ok.
