Orienteering practice at Rockcrusher with Mary, Raymond and Kevin. It was the first time Kevin had trained with us, so that was cool. We did some simple legs with route choice options - take different routes and then meet at the control. Fun. The snow made running a bit tougher and slower than otherwise.

3 points = a run with navigation in the terrain. I suppose the snow and some hills might even warrant a 4th point.

cycling 20:00 [1]

A bit of time on the trainer that I set up in the basement. Felt ok.

Hopped off the bike and row, row.

rowing 20:00 [1]

Row, row.

I felt "off" all day. Not sure what was up, mostly just feeling like I'd like to sleep for awhile. I'll have to stay up and watch the basketball game tonight.

Note

Long work day. I went to the study session on solid waste and then attended the CC meeting to listen to the discussion on overtime. Solid waste was first on the agenda, OT was last. It wasn't really too terrible. I was home by 9:15, but didn't feel up for any exercise. I guess I got a little bit of work shoveling snow in the morning and then clearing the row from the snow plow at the bottom of the driveway when I got home. I'm hoping the easy days will restore my right ankle.

other 20:00 [2]

I got my cross country skis out and shuffled around Holcom Park. Lots of fun.

1 point for cross training.

Note

Too much snow on the roads to bike to work. I did put in a couple of decent snow-shoveling sessions.

I also tested out the Gopro for time-lapse photography. This is a test of concept, not a particularly inspired project....an hour (one photo every 60 seconds) from my office window while I was in a meeting in a conference room. This was in the morning when we'd received a bit less than half of the snow that feel today.

PTOC score O' at SMP. Some snow on the ground. Not so much that it was hard to run. But enough to make the forest look nice and to make some of the trails a little slippery.

I ran ok. Felt quite good for about 35-40 minutes, then struggled a little. I felt pretty good running in the terrain. The little bits of terrain work have already started to pay off. More will help.

I had one odd thing. I dropped my map twice. I don't think I usually drop my map twice in a season let alone in a single event. I think the gloves (smartwool liners) just don't give much grip. The first time I couldn't find the map for a bit. It was upside down on the snowy ground and I just didn't see it. Raymond was passing by and saw me drop the map. He pointed it out to me.

I didn't look at the results, but I think 4 of us got them all in less than an hour. I think it was Matt B., Matt S., Joe B. and me. I heard that Matt ran 50 and I think it was Matt B., but I'm not sure.

The lowlight of the event was near the end. I ran next to the road and saw a car that had slid into a barrier and taken some front/side damage. The park PD was there and standing next to the car was Eelgrassman. He was ok, but the car wasn't. Bummer.

I ran with the head cam and will probably load it later.

5 points today.

running 30:00 [1]

Easy jogging to warm up (10 minutes) and then some easy jogging to pick up a few controls.
