cycling 50:00 [1]

The plan was to bike to/from Clinton and do some trail running with the overlook map in hand.

I encountered two small problems. First, the power went off in the middle of the night. I woke up feeling uncomfortably warm. Tossed and turned a while. Started wondering why it was so warm in the room (or was it just me getting sick or something?) and discovered the power was out. So, I moved downstairs where the temp was a bit more reasonable, but still tossed and turned. The result was feeling sleepy and sleeping in a little bit. Second, storms were blowing through. I studied the radar and made an educated guess that the worst of the storm would slide to the east and that the storm wouldn't result in golf-ball size hail. I was right about the hail. I was wrong about the storm's movement.

So, my bike riding and trail running were in drenching rain. And that is fun.

running 55:00 [2]

Easy jogging on the trails at the Overlook and a bit in the state park. I looked at the map now and then.

My hip was fine the entire run. That's the first time I've run over 20 minutes and not had some discomfort in the hip since it started causing me trouble.

cycling 45:00 [1]

Bike commute.

I stayed a bit late after a strange conversation with the CM. We have some fundamentally different views of the world. I guess that's a good thing. But, it is going to make for more work.

rowing 20:00 [1]

Row, row. Felt good.

cycling 1:00:00 [1]

Work commute + a couple of errands and some other stuff.

I went to a presentation by Billy Mills at Haskell. Really good stuff. He grew up on the Pine Ridge Reservation. His mom died when he was 8 or 9. His father died when he was 13. The prejudice he must have had to deal with is hard to imagine. Even without his life story, his life as a runner would be impressive.

Mills' presentation was full of good lessons - and really puts things in perspective (makes something like the NEOC board soap opera seem especially trivial).

cycling 45:00 [1]

Commuting to/from work. A bit humid on the trip in, but surprisingly pleasant for the trip home.

running 20:00 [2]

Short jog on West Campus. Felt slow but otherwise ok. I didn't notice any issues with my left hip. That's good.

Biked out the bike path to Clinton and then north to the trail end near the turnpike. I returned the same route. Had a nice chat with the Mayor near the end of the ride.

Spent a bit of time checking out base map possibilities for Gage Park in Topeka (Fritz's suggestion) and found some good air photos from the city and, of course, lidar data.
