other 30:00 [2]

Shuffled around a little loop, actually more like a triangle, at Holcomb (or is it spelled Holcom?). Feeling a bit worn out all day. I guess the shoveling and skiing are both using enough under-used muscles that I'm more worn out than I should be for such a low total amount of exercise.

Of course, did some more shoveling today.

We moved Mary's car from a side street to a parking lot. We didn't try to get into the neighborhood. Might be worth a try tomorrow as a snow plow ran down the street late this afternoon.

Another observation about strange snow behavior. Someone parked immediately across the street from the bottom of our driveway. The road is narrow to begin with and the snow narrows it further. Our driveway is steep enough that you would anticipate that a car coming down it wouldn't be able to make the tight turn without sliding into the parked car. So, I ask - why did you park there? Another example of mindlessness I think. By the time I got home from my short ski, the car was gone.

Skiing around a bit on West Campus. Windy but not really cold.

Note

I did a bunch of snow shoveling. I guess that qualifies as some sort of training. I'm sure I'll be a bit sore tomorrow.

I was a bit annoyed that the contractor who plows one of the neighbors' driveways dumped a load of snow right on top of the sidewalk I'd already shoveled. I always wonder if that sort of behavior is idiocy or mindlessness. I'll have to ask the neighbor to ask the contractor to be a bit less of an idiot or less mindless next time we have snow.

By about 8:30 pm the snow was clearly deep enough to get in some skiing. I put on a bunch of warm clothes (the wind was quite strong), my headlamp, and my skis. I went over to Holcom Park. I shuffled around a loop of about 250 meters. Tiring. Fun.

running 45:00 [2] ** 3.76 mi (11:57 / mi)

Mary and I went out to Clinton SP for a trail run. I stuck with trails and carried the map (2 meter contours + trails + a few other things) and did a good amount of map reading. Near landsend I discovered a new section of mtb trail - need to add it to the map.

As we were running the temp dropped from 34 to 28 and we got a bit of sleet.

cycling 45:00 [1]

Commute to/from work. Sketchy looking weather, but surprisingly warm. The trip home was in a bit of rain and through the fog. Forecast calls for some snow beginning tomorrow afternoon. That'd be nice.

rowing 20:00 [1]

Just a bit of time on the landboat.

Note

Some cool headcam video from this year's Possum Trot at Knob Noster:

cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute. With all the Christmas shoppers downtown the drivers were acting a bit nutty.

Note

Getting traffic on my blog from a link on a Yahoo fantasy football page. Strange.

running 40:00 [2]

Jogging around with the mat at Clinton overlook. I did a lot of map reading - mostly checking various features.

The trails were muddy. I hadn't expected that. They weren't just muddy, they were the kind of mud that builds up on your shoes. It made the running a bit of a chore.

cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute. Quiet. Not much traffic.

rowing 20:00 [1]

Hmm..arms felt tired.

Sunday Dec 20, 2009 #

Note

No running. No orienteering. No biking. No landboating.

But I did spend a couple of hours fieldchecking the overlook map. I have now covered the entire area. I think the map is enough to use for a small race. The terrain isn't especially interesting or nice, but it is convenient.
