running 45:00 intensity: (15:00 @1) + (10:00 @2) + (20:00 @4)

I ran a 5K-ish trail race at Clinton State Park. Did a bit to warm up and then jogged a bit after I'd finished.

I carried the old orienteering map (1996, I guess) and it certainly needs to be updated.

The race was small - 20 runners, I think - and was put on by the Lawrence Trail Hawks (or is it trailhawks?). The course began at campground 1, went to lands end, then ran west along the shoreline trail, climbed a bit and looped back to the campground. The last bit was climbing the steps that lead from the trail back to the campground. Those steps were a bit of a chore. Nice course - mostly flat and mostly fast. The shoreline section is a bit rocky and uneven. The trail was a little muddy and wet in a couple of places.

I worked hard and felt a lot better going hard than I'd expected. I wasn't going fast and I struggled with the rougher sections and the little climb.

cycling 45:00 [1]

The work commute. Perfect weather for riding, but I didn't see many other people out on their bikes. On the other hand, downtown was full of people wandering around. Fridays before KU football games seem to attract crowds to downtown.

Jogged around on West Campus with the map.

I peered into the dense woods at one point and spotted a permanent O' marker. I wonder who put it out there. I wonder how many more are out in the woods on West Campus.

Lots of commuting-like biking today. From home to the office, the office to the ITC, the ITC back to the office, and then the office to home.

I read this story from Scientific American:

http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=g...

It inspired me to count cyclists on my ride home. I counted 7 women and 10 men.

In retrospect, a run would have been a better use of my time.

Commuting and grocery shopping. Took it quite easy today.

Hands were cold on the ride to work. I need to either find some gloves or buy some new ones.

Commute. Really nice conditions today. It felt like Fall...oh yeah, it is Fall.

I had a meeting on campus at the engineering building. As I was walking in, I noticed a bike and recalled my first mountain bike. It was a yellow Giant Iguana, just like the bike parked by the door. As I was leaving I realized it probably wasn't just the same model, it was probably the same bike. I think the bike went from me to Fritz to Gene to Damon.

I almost didn't get out the door. I jogged around on West Campus, carrying the map and looking at it now and then.

Work commute. I managed to make it to the office before the rain started. It rained most of the day, but stopped just long enough for me to get home. Once I got home, the rain started again.

On the land boat for a bit.

running 1:30:00 [2]

Met Gene and Raymond for a run on the river trail. Nice run. Good weather. Gene kept a good, steady pace. We expected Fritz, but something must have come up.

Legs felt a bit sore from yesterday's harder running. But, I certainly felt better than I did on my last long run with Gene.

Post run "fika" at La Prima Taza.

cycling 30:00 [1]

I did a 30 minute ride on the bike paths after dinner.

I also ran a few errands before dinner. I rode to/from downtown and to/from the grocery store. Easy, but felt good to move around a bit.
