I jogged around a sprint course at JCC (not to be confused with JCCC) and then did the even numbered controls and then explored the map a bit.

It was fun to run on a map I'd never been on before.

I think the back-to-back easy days was a good idea. Tomorrow I'll run the SMP 1-hour score course in the morning before the regular meet time (Mary arranged to run early so we can be home in time to watch the Giants game).

60 and sunny - Loose Park was full of people. I shuffled around a sprint course, gradually picking up the pace as I went.

I was at audit training most of the day, but we got out a bit early (a little after 4). I went out to SMP and started with enough light to run without a lamp. After about 40 minutes, I had to turn on the lamp to read the map and after about another 10 minutes I needed the lamp to see in the terrain.

I did the odd numbered controls from Mary's SMP test loop. I kept the pace easy. My map reading and concentration were good with one exception - a minute + boom when I got lazy for just a few seconds. Same thing happened at Wyandotte two nights ago.

Lots of deer in the park as usual.

Fun stuff.

Easy effort on a night O' course at Wyandotte. The course was mostly in the open and on trails (and a bit on roads). I ran Pasi-style. Really fun and my legs felt good.

running 20:00 [2]

A bit of a warm up and then some jogging back to the car.

Fibonacci intervals on a night O' course (3 km) at Wyandotte.

I ran through some nice spots and a couple of really crappy sections.

Home just after the KU game started.

orienteering 20:00 [2]

A low intensity night O' session on a contours only map of Bonner Park (1:5000 and 1 meter contours). Fun.

I realize that a difficulty with my January plan is that running in the terrain can lead to annoying aches and pains that would do better with a day off.

The run felt good and I realized that I'd been stressing a bit for the last day and a half. I spoke to a Rotary club about my job. I like talking to other auditors about my job, but I stress when I have to talk to non-auditors. I've no idea how it went. I ended on time. They had a few questions. I didn't get sick (yet).

I had to go to Lawrence because Ideree needed a lift from the airport to Lawrence. I decided to do some training at Clinton.

I jogged through a course at Rockcrusher. It felt ok, but I spent some time in rough (thick) forest that wasn't much fun. I warmed up on the way to the first control. I shouldn't do that. I seem to concentrate a lot better if I spend 10 minutes or so jogging around to warm up.

I spotted several eagles but didn't see any people out in the forest today.

Note

I spent about 90+ minutes doing something like fieldchecking. I began fieldchecking. After about 20-25 minutes, my hands were cold and I couldn't get them comfortable. I thought about going back to the car and adding some clothing. But that didn't seem worth it. Instead, I put away the pencils and just walked around checking out the basemap and Eddie's "unsharp" Lidar images.

The Lidar stuff from Eddie lets you pick out some really small stuff - like calf deep ditches and remnants of long gone trails. Great stuff.

The temp was around 25 and the wind was blowing from the north. I don't normally fieldcheck when it is that cold. I guess that is why I under-dressed. I should have carried an extra jacket.
