I managed to wake up early and headed down to Harisonville for the Jerry Tabb Road Trip. The JTRT is a score O' event on a little 1:7500 map. I teamed up with Pete and we had a nice run...except we sucked at the "mystery" events (at one control you had to roll some tennis balls around on a board trying to get them stuck in holes and at another control you tossed washers into wooden boxes). As a team, we got just one map between us. So we took turns. I'd orienteer for a few controls, then hand the map over to Pete and he'd lead for a few controls. It worked ok.
Gene set up a practice on the KU sprint map. I began by warming up - took a few controls from an old course, then did the line O', then picked up 3 markers.
The line course was fun. Gene made us go up and down a lot of stairs and gave us some detail to read (he also enlarged the map to 1:3000).
We had decent turn out: Mary, Dick, Nancy, Reta, Paul, and Pete.
Dinner at Panera after the run. After dinner, Pete and I decided that we'd run Saturday's event as a team if we both happened to wake up early enough to make it to the start.
Longish slow run. We went to the newly opened trail that runs along the levee between the casino in Riverside and Parkville. Running on a levee is fun for a change.
My legs felt ok for about 70 minutes, then I felt tired.
