I did some O' practice on the KU Campus sprint map. Fun, even if my legs felt a little tired.
I came across a red-tailed hawk with a small bird in its claws (or are they talons?) next to the sidewalk between Summerfield and Wescoe. I spent a minute or so watching the hawk. After a bit, it flew away.
Busy day. I put in 50 easy on the river trails. I saw a bunch of trail runners. A quick check of runLawrence turns up a Wednesday evening group trail run.
4 x 400 meters (30 seconds rest) + a few minutes at the end to make sure I could count the session as 10 minutes at an honest effort.
I used the interval feature on my GPS. It is pretty slick.
When I got home, I mowed. I did 2.22 km at a pace of 15:47/km (which, if memory serve me, is a much better pace than Ken does on his lawn...probably I have more long, flat straight section).
On the hobo trail I met a trail runner (said his name was "Shane") and his dog. We chatted a bit. He told me about a relatively new trail that begins at the spillway. I showed him the O' map and he pointed out the route of the new trail. So, I went over and checked it out. It is short - maybe a mile - and runs from the spillway to shelter 16. If it gets some use, the vegetation shouldn't be much of a problem. I think they might be using it as part of the Summer Intro Trail Race:
