running 2:05:00 [2]

I celebrated "candy day" with a long, slow run - almost entirely on the trails - at Wyandotte. Very nice day to be in the forest with snow on the ground and falling steadily the entire run.

On the drive home I nearly lost it on the exit ramp from 152 to Amity. I slowed down, expecting it to be slick snow on the ramp, but still managed to slide. I did a complete 180 while managing to stay on the road.

I'm feeling very strange today. I woke up at 730 or so, then fell asleep on the couch, then went back to bed and slept till 10 or so. After my run, I fell asleep for a few minutes. I nearly fell asleep during the first half of the KU - Ohio game (Mary and I went to the game in the new arena). I think I'll go to sleep soon.

running 20:00 [2]

A short jog around the neighborhood. Enough to break a sweat and not much more. Felt really good.

The forecast is calling for snow. It dusted off my x-c skis, boots and poles. We'll see if we get enough (or any, for that matter) snow.

Even if we don't get enough snow to ski, it might be enough to make watching the U.S. Cyclocross Champs (at Bonner Park) more entertaining.

running 1:00:00 [2]

A very pleasant jog on the snowy, icy trails at PNS (in the dark). My legs really felt great. I guess that's becuase I was jogging so slowly.

running 40:00 [2]

I jogged around the neighborhood, admiring the ice coated trees.

I saw a turkey. Sort of. I went by the science labs at the high school and spotted a stuffed wild turkey on a shelf next to a window.

orienteering 1:40:00 [2]

I ran on trails at Wyandotte. The first 30-40 minutes felt awful. I was tempted to turn around and call it quits. But, then everything started feeling normal.

My pace was easy, very relaxed. I carried the map and read it now and then. Mostly I just let my mind wander. It was what I'd call a "cow faced" effort.

I'd told Mary I would meet her back at the car in 1:45. On the far side of the dam, I looked at my watch and realized that I had to pick up the pace or expect Mary to wait for me. I picked up the pace and ran at something just below an honest effort for the last 15 minutes or so. I actually could have run a bit easier because I got back to the car early (my watch read 1:44:58 when I reached the car).
