Some easy jogging to warm up and then to get back to the car (checking out one control location on the way).

I ran Mary's short and hilly test course at Wyandotte. Conditions weren't great for a good time because of the snow. I also lost time on a couple of controls near the end (when I was thinking about running instead of actually navigating to the controls) and when I didn't spot the easy way to cross a deep gully/stream.
I like this as a test course. It felt more like an orienteering course than the hilly Wyandotte course Mary set last year.
Lots of deer and turkeys in the forest. I also glimpsed a large bird - but didn't get a good enough look to identify it as a bald eagle.
After the run, we hussled down to Brookside for lunch with M and R at a French restaurant (I had the veal liver).
Easy run at PNS with the headlamp and in the snow. I wonder what the weekend will bring - the forecast is for freezing rain. I like running in freezing rain, but I don't like getting out on the streets. We'll see.
The plan was to run tonight. But this morning I had a strange, sudden, sharp tightness in my left calf. The tightness eased throughout the day, and I'm sure I could have shuffled around a bit. But I decided to just take the day off.
The Trot at SMP. I had a better run than I'd expected - felt slow but managed to keep a steady pace and run fairly cleanly. I managed to ditch two stronger runners than me in the last 1 km or so (preserving some important points in the lifetime standings).
Cool and windy, but dry.
A huge thanks to PTOC for putting on a great event.
