DNF at the Long O' Champs at Saylor Park. I started slow and easy. I felt pretty good for the first 65 minutes or so. Then I felt like I was really struggling to breath (the race was over 9000 feet). I cut off the course at control 9 and picked up the more interesting looking controls on the way back to the finish. The last 55 minutes was a real struggle, with lots of stops to catch my breath on any little hill.

running 30:00 [2]

I had a late afternoon meeting in Overland Park. So when the meeting ended, I dropped by SMP and did a bit on the mtb trails. Conditions were not especially pleasant - mid/upper 90s, humid, dead calm.

Dr. Archer told me to stay out of the heat.

While the elderly, young children and people with mental illnesses or chronic diseases are at the highest risk for heat-related illnesses, young and healthy individuals can succumb to heat if they participate in strenuous physical activities in hot weather.

So, I rode the trainer and watched a show on PBS that featured some guy from the Planetary Science Institute (Hartman or something like that). Interesting show.

Note

Pushed the mower around - drenched in sweat by the end. Feels like I did some exercise, but I don't count mowing.

running 1:15:00 [2]

Another hilly run at Wyandotte. Warm and humid again. Mostly fun, though my legs felt yesterday's hills.

I might drag myself away from the couch and go spend some time on the trainer.

On the trainer while watching the last bit of the Nascar race.
