running 10:00 [2]

Some pre-race warm up.

Nice course and forest. Lots of booms and bad orienteering on my part (though bits and pieces of the race went fine). There is something to learn from today's race, but I'm not yet sure what it is.

running 20:00 [2]

Jogging around to warm up a bit before the UMSL sprint race.

Sprint race on the UMSL campus. Nice map, nice course. Lots of fun. I had a good race, losing little time to anything except being slow (lost a few seconds when I fell down after getting my map at the start!).

running 35:00 [2]

Trails at PNS. Saw some wildlife, including: an unidentified mammal (probably a ground hog, but I didn't get a good look), a fat squirrel, an Eastern Bluebird, and a pack of walking-stick-wielding serious hikers.

running 10:00 [4]

3 x 3:20 old man intervals on the trails on the east loop (which means I did some climb). Felt pretty good.

cycling 30:00 [1]

Just a bit of time on the trainer to break a sweat and move a little bit.

Sunday May 14, 2006 #

running 45:00 [2]

Easy jogging on the river trail in Lawrence. Saw lots of birds, including an Indigo Bunting and some Baltimore Orioles.

running 15:00 [4]

During the jog on the river trail I threw in 3 x 5 minutes at an honest effort (though just barely an honest effort). Felt ok, though my legs felt a bit of yesterday's running and, I think, the mapping (standing and walking) and maybe even standing around in the morning.

Note

Spent a couple of hours in downtown Lawrence watching the US Collegiate Cycling Champs -- really fun to watch. Met Mom there and took her to La Familia for M's-day lunch. Then I did an hour or so of KU fieldchecking.
