cycling 30:00 [1]

Started the day with some time on the trainer while waiting for Mary to wake up (after she stayed up late to finish reading the latest Harlen Coben book).

running 20:00 [2]

Jogging on the road that goes south from SKP park (Lackman, I think) to warm up. I also had the chance to chat with Pete G. and give him directions to the meet site. It was a little tricky as they used the church parking lot instead of the park parking lot.

orienteering race 15:00 [4] ***

PTOC sprint at SKP. Nice course by Mike Shifman (as expected) and a fun event. I had a mostly good race and felt like I was moving ok, though I didn't feel very good.

After a bad sprint at W.P. (and a bad sprint at San Diego), I was glad to run well today.

I re-ran the sprint course (from memory). I'd planned to run it with the map, but Dan Welch seemed to think I wouldn't be able to re-run the course without the map. So, I decided to show Dan that he was wrong.

Note

Spent about 3 hours fieldchecking the KU campus map.

running 1:05:00 [2]

Yesterday's day off was probably a good decision. I felt good (and no swelling in my knee) today.

I stopped at PNS on the way home and went up/down the rocky hill until I'd climbed 1000 feet. My legs felt very good.

running 15:00 [2]

Warming up at Bonner Park.

Two very short O' technique sessions. First, I did a course on the Bonner Park map with an emphasis on leaving controls. Second, I did a little tiny course on a air photo (from google maps) where I used individual trees as control locations. Fun and interesting.

running 1:05:00 [2]

Jogging at PNS.

At the end of the run I was rewarded with an Indigo Bunting spotting. The Indigo Bunting is probably one of the three most spectacular local birds (tied with the Bald Eagle and, of course, the Jayhawk).

running 10:00 [4]

3 x 3:20 old man LAM intervals on the trails at PNS.

Note

No training today. Feet are a bit sore and beat up from Hudson Valley rocks. Also, I needed to mow the lawn.

Sunday May 7, 2006 #

running 20:00 [2]

Jogging around to warm up.

West Point day 2. Mostly interesting orienteering and fun to have to adapt to three different mapping styles (I guess that is good training). I had a reasonably good race. Far from perfect, but not bad at all.

I got tired.
