running 1:15:00 [2]

We ran on the river trail in Lawrence. The river trail is such a nice place to run -- fun.

running 10:00 [4]

I hadn't taken a hard step since Ohio, so I wanted to try a little bit of harder effort to see how it'd feel. On the river trails I did 2 x 5 minutes at just-barely-an-honest-effort. With ten minutes of easy jogging between harder efforts. It felt ok.

Slow, but not easy, run on the hobo trail at Wyandotte.

My h.r. was quite high (especially considering how slowly I jogged). That's because of the weather:

"A record high temperature of 92 degrees was reached this afternoon at 354 PM at the Kansas City International Airport. The previous record was 88 degrees set back in 1936."

I climbed 1300 feet.

On the trainer. The body is feeling a little better today.

A nice hilly (and warm -- 79 F) jog on the hobo trails at Wyandotte. I didn't see any hobos.

I jogged slowly. On the uphills I jogged slowly because it was uphill. On the downhills I jogged slowly to take pressure off my left knee. Since the hobo trails are continually up and down, I went slowly the entire time.

Fun.

Near the end I tripped and fell. Ouch, ribs sore.

I climbed 1320 feet.

On the trainer, watching baseball (with a break to look at some O' maps).

I had a strange day physically. I felt quite uncomfortable (ribs) and my knee was swollen in the a.m. But, it got better throughout the day and feels better right now than it has since I fell down in Ohio.

I'm also beginning a new experiment leading up to the short/long weekend and West Point. If it works -- and I think it should -- I expect good races at both of those events. The various Ohio-injuries are throwing some added complexities to the experiment.

Slow, but a bit hilly, jogging at Wyandotte.

I met a few people on the trials, which is really unusual at Wyandotte. I met a hiker who was going around the lake to get in shape. He warned me that there was a "hobo" camping at the bottom of one of the bluffs. Actually, it turned out there were two "hobos" at the bottom of the bluff. But, they semed to be walking not camping (they had a load of stuff attached to a bit stick -- just like comic book hobos) and were walking along the trail.

Knee a touch sore. Maybe a little worse than yesterday? Ribs sore. I slightly change my running form when my ribs hurt. I swing my arms more straight, rather than twisting my torso. I suspect swining the arms straighter is better form. Maybe getting hurt will improve my running form.

I climbed 1200 feet.

On the trainer while watching Paris-Roubaix on TV.

My mind is will, but my body feels battered.
