orienteering 30:00 [4] ***

SLOC middle distance race at Cliff Cave. The area has a lot of sink holes. Rick Armstrong set a nice course. The orienteering wasn't hard, but it felt like you were making lots of small decisions all the time. I had a good run and won. Yep, I won M21. I've now met one of Mikell Platt's goals for the season. Michael Eglin finished 2nd.

I ran the last leg for OK's relay team at Forest Park. My legs felt a bit tired from the morning, but once I got going it was fine. The orienteering was fun. The park was full of people. I had a decent race -- went out a bit hard but then eased back and had a nice race. I didn't see more than a couple of people out there, but I apparently passed several. Unfortunately, OK was DQds for a mispunch on the first leg. Despite that, it was a blast.

We stopped at Rudolph Bennitt on the way to St Louis. I think the last time the map was used was 21 years ago (to the day, in fact). The map has held up quite well. The contours seemed decent and the forest was nice. I think we'll need to see about updating the map.

I worked a bit late, then had to do some laundry and pack for the St Louis race. I didn't have much time, so I just spent a half hour on the trainer.

Note

Feeling worn out. I don't think I'm getting sick. It doesn't feel like that. Whatever. I came home from work in the middle of the afternoon and took a nap. That helped.

running 1:00:00 [2]

I ran at Wyandotte on the way home from work. I decided to run until I hit 1000 feet of climb. It turned out it took almost exactly an hour (total climb ended up being 1020). My legs felt strange -- not bad but not normal.

Mary and I went up to Weston Bend. I ran on the trails and the gravel road below the bluffs. Fun, but it felt like a summer day -- warm, humid. Actually it was only about 72 when we ran. I hope I can survive the real warm weather. I carried the O' map and read it a bit, but I wouldn't call this an O' session. I climbed 680 feet.

running 15:00 [4]

About every 20 minutes I picked up the pace and worked hard for 5 minutes. I did that three times. I felt strong (for me) but not fast.

I rode my mountain bike on the roads (most of the time on the bunny loop). A fairly strong wind made it tougher than normal. I climbed 800 feet.
