orienteering race 1:04:00 [4] *****
ahr:169 20c

I ran an ORCA event near Salem. Strange terrain -- either trails (many paved), open areas, or thorny green so thick you couldn't get through it. Oh yeah, flat as a pancake. Some interesting route choices because of the green and some uncrossable water. It was fun and I ran pretty well. I lost time when I encountered unleased dogs and when I managed to get myself in some of the thorns at the 16th control. Andy Dale beat me by a bit over 4 minutes. The course was advertised as 10 km, but I measured it at just a tick over 12 km (going around the uncrossable water but not around the even-more-uncrossable green). Thanks to ORCA for a fun event. I climbed 180 feet.

running 50:00 [2]

I arrived in Portland in the early afternoon and decided to drive east along the river until I came to a trail head. I ran up a trail for about half an hour then turned around and ran back. Lots of nice views, but the downhill was a bit of pounding on my legs. I set a PR for climbing 1000 feet -- 22:07. It is a lot easier to climb 1000 feet when you can run straight up (i.e. without having to run up and down over and over). I climbed 1420 feet.

cycling 30:00 [1]

Just a short time on the trainer.

cycling 30:00 [1]

Some easy time on the trainer before dealing with some of my travel plans for the Portland-trip.

running 30:00 [2]

Easy jogging at PNS. Mostly warming up. I climbed 300 feet.

running 10:00 [4]

3 x 3:30 at an honest effort on the trails at PNS. I've run the same session three times. This time my effort was about the same, but I was covering a good bit more ground and recovering quicker. That feels good.

Mary and I went to Knob Noster for some nice forest. I ran a long-ish course with lots of controls on the east side of the map. I had a really good run -- concentrating really well and having fun. Of course, I wasn't running hard. Yesterday my legs felt heavy, today they felt good.

PTOC really needs to get the Trot back to Knob Noster.

I climbed 940 feet.
