PTOC red course at Jacomo. The woods were thick and crappy (even for the KC area). There was a fair amount of deadfall from last winter's ice storm (this would be the best local area to do some runs to prepare for terrain with a lot of deadfall). I made my way around the course without too much trouble. Tom Hanley set the courses and did a reasonably job -- though I'd have preferred a few more opportunities to run on trails or roads to get a break from the woods.

PTOC night O' on a new map at Jacomo. It was a score course with lots of controls. My route to get all the controls wasn't very well planned -- I did a reasonably bit more distance than necessary. I recovered from the red course and my legs felt decent except when I had to go up a hill. I had two small booms.

I really like night O' and was psyched that PTOC put the event on their calendar. The event drew a decent crowd -- probably just over 30 (a good number of them adventure-racing-types).

running 25:00 [2]

Shuffled around a bit. My left leg was a bit sore -- on the drive home from last night's training it got sore.

Jogging around a bit before and after the O' practice.

Night O' practice at SMP. I drew a control picking course (inspired by Jorgen Rostrup's latest article on training). Gene, Mike S. and Eric also ran. It was fun to get in some night O'.

Note

The Jayhawk basketball season starts tonight. I'd planned to set up my bike on the trainer and watch some of the game. The problem is I'm worn out. After two days of O', a flight home and a good three hours in the emergency room, I didn't get to bed until pretty late. Think I'll watch the game from a chair instead of my bike.

Day 2 red course. To try to get my orienteering working I did two things -- I came to a dead stop as I got near each control and I walked for a few steps as I left each control. This seemed to help a bit. I still didn't orienteer very well but I orienteered better than yesterday. I described it to Mook like this -- Saturday I orienteered like a had a paper bag over my head, Sunday I orienteered like a had a paper bag over my head, but it had two holes in it.
