orienteering 2:00:00 [5]

While Gene was at Sand Hills (!) I did PTOC's two hour score O' at Landahl. I made a mistake in the first 20 minutes or so (probably a good 3+ minute error) but then orienteered reasonably well the rest of the time. I wasn't sharp. But, I wasn't terrible either. I worked hard the whole time. I wasn't really moving fast. I'm not in good, or even decent, running shape. I got really tired after about 90 minutes. In particular, my left quad was like a log. When I went out afterwards to check a suspicous control (the flag had fallen on the ground), my left quad cramped. Ouch. Landahl seems to be the local O' forest that had the most damage from the ice strom. ST=152.

Some easy time on the trainer. I watched more hockey (US-Russia). Wow, those guys are good.

Note

Tomorrow is a 2 hour (or maybe 2.5 hour?) score O' at Landahl. It should be fun but tough. I'm not in shape to run -- let alone run hard -- for 2+ hours. So, I'll need to pace myself carefully. Landahl is a nice map. I've heard that there are a lot of fallen trees since the ice storm. That'll make it tougher. That's good. I think I'll plan a route to get all the controls.

running 25:00 [2]

I jogged around a bit. When I got home I punched in the door code. Nothing happened. I tried again. Nothing. I didn't have a key. I checked the back door. Locked. Tried the code again. Nothing. Mary was out and wouldn't be back for a good 2+ hours. What to do? After a while, I found a window that wasn't latched. I pried the screen door off and managed to get a bit of the window open (would a neighbor see me and report a suspicous prowler?). The window was a bit high and I wasn't sure if I'd be able to get in it. So, before I tried to climb through it I decided to try the code one more time. It worked!

On the trainer in the basement. I was watching the USA-Canada women's hockey game. Norb was working the Canadian penalty box. He managed to get his face on TV a couple of times.

Ho hum...riding in the basement.

running 25:00 [2]

Jogged around the neighborhood in the rain. It felt pretty good.

cycling 35:00 [1]

Spent some time on the trainer while watching the Olympic sprint races on video. Ski races make good videos for riding a trainer (I'd put the ski racing behind Jayhawk b-ball but ahead of Nascar).

cycling 40:00 [1]

Flew home today. I had time to put in 40 minutes on the trainer. I'm hoping the recent days off have been good for me.
