Note

Instead of PT excercises, I spent a lot of time hiking at Red Rocks. The hiking was fun and it felt like good work for my leg muscles. The first bit -- to Calico Tank -- involved a lot of work for my left leg.

PT excercises at home. I didn't ride the bike (except for a ten minute pre-excercise warm-up) to give my leg a bit of time to rest. If the swelling is down, I'll try to get Linda to let me try jogging tomorrow at the hospital.

PT at the hospital. After the excercises, Linda spent some time trying to straighten my knee (I sit with my legs flat and she applies pressure, pushing the knee down). It doesn't feel very good, but it seems to help. I also spent some post-PT time studying the model knee and trying to understand what happened to my tibia. It looks like the femur normally rests on a fairly large portion of the top of the tibia. But, if the knee bends the wrong way, the entire force of the femur is on a very small part of the top of the tibia. So, the stress must be quite a bit greater. That would explain the tibia injury.

Riding the bike in the basement. Basketball season has begun, so I watched KU v. EA Sports. Time passes much faster when you can watch the Jayhawks while biking. I also put in five minutes on the NT. I'll see how the swelling is tomorrow.

I rode the trainer in the basement while Mary was on the NT. We watched "Totally Nascar" together!

PT excercises at home. After five minutes on the NT yesterday, my lower leg swelled up again. It was a bit discouraging. I suppose the problem is that excercising while bearing weight on the leg is just too much for it to handle. I'll talk to Linda at the hospital tomorrow, but I don't expect to be able to try jogging until next week.

PT at the hospital. I asked Linda if I could try to jog -- 2 or 3 times 20-30 steps. She said no. Not yet. But, she suggested I try 5 minutes on the NT and see how my leg reacts (I tried 10 on the NT last week and the leg swelled).

Note

I walked the orange course at Wyandotte. I wore the knee brace. I felt pretty confident most of the time.
