This was actually two runs. First, I shuffled around on trails looking at the woods and the map, stopping to make a few small corrections. When that was done, I walked for about half an hour, also making some small corrections. Then I ran in the forest. I was intending to run the course I'd designed, but based on what I'd already seen, I re-designed the course. I ran and checked out a few legs and control locations.
It was raining off-and-on while I was running.
The woods were slower than I'd hoped. Maybe they'll be nicer as the leaves fall. But, there were still a few places I got scratched up in some thorns.
I'm struggling a bit with the design. It is a forest sprint in an area without many ways to have route choice. The basic technique in this part of Knob Noster is to just go straight and read the contours. I also have trouble figuring out the appropriate difficulty. But, I learned a lot and made a bunch of changes to my design.
On the way home I passed a restaurant/bar called "The Rat Hole." It is close to the park. I don't think I'm tempted, but maybe some of the folks running The Possum Trot will check it out.
