running 15:00 [2]

Chilly and dark and some misty stuff. I was under-dressed so I ended up working harder to stay warm. Still, just a short jog.

I drove to work today. I listened to some sports talk radio. They were complaining about people who oppose the name "Redskins" for the NFL team. Coincidentally, I saw this video, which I thought was pretty cool (and it has Billy Mills)

Work commute and a NEW COLD BIKING PR!!!

I thought about going for a jog, but I've got to prep some maps for Saturday's training.

PTOC event at Blue and Gray. Something wasn't working right with my body. I didn't quite feel in the first one or two k, and then things went downhill and I ended up walking even when it seemed like I could/should run. Marv saw me walking across an open (and flat) field and gave me some grief for that. But I just couldn't get my legs moving.

Fun to meet two new temporary OKers - Tom (from the Netherlands) and Jenny (from Finland).

Running on the trails at Clinton State Park. I carried my current mapping project with me and made a few notes for some changes/additions.

Most of the day was spent at KU in Malott Hall. I'm part of a team teaching a graduate course in the MPA program on performance auditing. The class does a lot of online work and meets 4 x 6 hours on Saturdays. So far, so good.

Work commute and a new PR for biking in the cold! The temp for this morning's trip to the office was 4F (my previous PR was 6F).

I was appropriately dressed and it wasn't a problem except for having my glasses fog up a couple of times.

Second day's red course at GAOC.

It was kind of hilly. My watch (with a barometer to count climb) counted 364 meters. Much of the climb was over by about half way to the sixth control.

Instead of a jog tonight I did some laundry and watched a documentary about running in Kenya:

cycling 45:00 [1]

A windy work commute. I had a headwind on the way to the office and a tailwind to get home. That's the way it should be.

running 45:00 [2]

Headlamp trail run at Rockcrusher. I don't know if I've ever run there at night before. In a few places the trail was very icy - so slippery that I had to walk carefully. I also scared some large birds (turkeys?) that made a lot of noise flapping their winds in the dense cedars.

cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute. I'm kind of scared of biking when there is patchy ice on the route, so this was the first biking in quite a while. It felt good but there are some really nutty drivers out there.

When I'm out of town Mary always eats things for dinner that I don't like (e.g. stuffed green peppers). With Mary out of town I should eat something she doesn't like. But I can't come up with anything.

running 1:20:00 [2]

The running time of my running + mapping day at Clinton Overlook. The temp was in the mid 40s when I started and mid 60s by the end (and our backyard thermometer read 70 as a high).

Some of the forest at Clinton is a bit thorny:

Note

I read about the indoor trail race this morning and while I was running (and now during halftime of the KU game), I was imagining that Allen Field House would be a cool location for an indoor trail run.

Shifting mini-control locations at Rockcrusher to set up a OK training course. It was quite nice - warmish (38 or so) and a bit of snow but not so much it was work to run through.

running 1:00:00 [2]

In addition to shifting controls, I did some more running. Most of this was on the trails.

running 40:00 [2]

Headlamp run at Clinton - mostly on trails but a few places I headed off through the terrain. There is more snow left in the woods than I'd expected. It isn't so much that it is work to run through, but it looks nice.

I carried the in-progress map and looked at a few things.

Just a very short run, mostly around Holcom Park, becuase I wanted to be home to watch the KU game on TV.

Running on West Campus. I wore my new Inov-8s to break them in. It seems to me that everytime I get a pair of Inov-8s they fit slightly differently.

The weather today was a lot warmer and most of the snow melted.

running 1:00:00 [2]

Really nice day to be out even though it was cold (10F) and windy (gusts of 25-30). In the woods and with the right clothing it was fine.

I jogged around looking at things and looking at the map. I caught Mary near the end and shot a little iphone video:

Jogging around, mostly on trails, at Clinton near Lake Henry. I looked at some areas and made a few notes for the current mapping project.

Putting out controls for today's event at Woodridge. I think Woodridge is our most Laramie-like terrain.

2

running 30:00 [2]

Jogging out to pick up the 3 controls on the north part of Woodridge. It was colder and windier than when I put out the controls.
