other 20:00 [2]

A bit of time on the rower after mowing the lawn.

Wednesday Jul 30, 2008 #

running 40:00 intensity: (35:00 @2) + (5:00 @4)

On the river trails with 5 x 400 meters (1 minute rests). With all the rain the last day or so, the trails haven't gotten much use. I took a few spider webs in the face.

running 1:00:00 intensity: (50:00 @2) + (10:00 @4)

I managed to wake up and get out the door by 7. That's the responsible thing to do in the summer. I went to PNS and ran on the trails.

I put in 3 x the White Squirrel Hill (begin at the base of the hill and run to the high point on the east loop trail - it took me about 4 minutes).

Back home in time to site on the couch, drink a cup of coffee, and watch the live TDF coverage.

other 35:00 [2]

A little time on the rower.

Saturday Jul 26, 2008 #

other 50:00 [2]

2 x 25 minutes on the rower. Too unpleasant outside to get myself out the door.

Note

Just after 5, a Lawrence-resident showed up to talk to the City Auditor. Mostly, I listened to complaints about top management and the need for them to get some training in how to run something. Part of the job is listening to residents. So, I listened. And listened. And listened. At 5:45, I explained that it was 5:45 on Friday and I needed to get home and mow the lawn (which was true and was what I did when I got home). I need to figure out how to extricate myself when the discussion isn't going anywhere. I'm not sure how to do that, but I guess I'll either figure it out myself of get some advice from others who have to deal with the same issue.

running 35:00 [2]

I walked to/from a meeting this afternoon - about a mile each way. By the time I got back to my office, I'd sweated through my shirt. It was a bit gross. I decided that the weather sucked enough that I'd just skip running.

But, then I began "night dreaming" and realized that a bit of a run, even if it was just short and easy, would be the responsible thing to do. So, I jogged on the river trail. It was hot and humid. On the radio they described the weather as "unstable"- meaning hot and humid with a chance of a tornado or severe thunderstorm.

At the end of the run, I chatted a bit with Larry Spray. Larry was riding the trail on a single speed mountain bike.

other 20:00 [2]

Some rowing. Felt good.

Wednesday Jul 23, 2008 #

cycling 1:10:00 [2]

Fun ride on the river trails. I felt like I was moving better than usual and more comfortable on the trails.

Tuesday Jul 22, 2008 #

running 40:00 intensity: (35:00 @2) + (5:00 @4)

Ran on the river trails after work. I included 2 x 2 x 400 meters with a minute of walking between. The running felt pretty good.

Monday Jul 21, 2008 #

other 15:00 [2]

Basically a day off, but I figured 15 minutes on the rower would feel good. It did.

Sunday Jul 20, 2008 #

other 30:00 [2]

The best way to train in July is to get up early and run before it gets too warm. But, then you miss sitting in front of the TV with a cup of coffee and watching the live TDF coverage. I did a bit of that, then spent a little time on the rower watching the riders climb a mountain.

cycling 45:00 [2]

MTB ride on the roads at Wyandotte. Mary drew a few control locations on the map (all either on the road or right next to it) and I read the map as I went along, checking off the control features. That makes the ride a bit more interesting.

I kept the pace easy. It was hot out. Just before I left the house, I checked weatherunderground.com. That page listed the current temp as 107. Well, that couldn't be right. I checked weather.gov - 98. That sounded more like it, but still hot.

other 50:00 [2]

Row, row, row. I was going to do some riding or running today, too. But, instead I mowed the lawn in the middle of the afternoon. That was draining.

Friday Jul 18, 2008 #

running 25:00 [2]

A short jog on the river trails. It rained for about 15 minutes just before I started, the sun came out just as I started. As a result, it was about as humid as it can get. I was dripping with sweat - soaking through my shirt - after about 15 minutes.

other 15:00 [2]

Rowing while watching some of the TDF.

orienteering 10:00 [3] ***

Did the PTOC beginner course at Stoll Park (including running to/from Backwoods where the O' clinic was held).

The turnout for the clinic was better than I'd expected. I'm guessing there were almost 30 people. Maybe a few of them will come out to regular events.

Wednesday Jul 16, 2008 #

cycling 1:05:00 [2]

MTB on the river trails. I felt pretty good (didn't even come close to crashing!).

Frtiz dropped by City Hall to let me know he'd run last night's practice course (made a big mistake when he got off track and went east of the junior golf course).

Tuesday Jul 15, 2008 #

cycling 20:00 [2]

MTB on the roads at Bonner Park while spectating at tonight's O' practice. The practice was line O' on a contours only map (with 1 meter contours). We had a pretty good turnout - Gene; Mary; Dick and Nancy; Matt, Joe, Kate and Angie Barrett; Pete G.; Reta R.; and Dan W. Also a few friends of the Barrets who ran around a bit but I don't think did any actual map reading.

Det var som en bastu.

I felt lousy.

Running on the river trail.

running 5:00 [4]

2 x 2 x 400 meters with 30 seconds walking breaks.

Wednesday Jul 9, 2008 #

cycling 50:00 [2]

Mountain biking on the river trails. I took it a bit easy. I didn't fall off. Fun.

other 15:00 [2]

Row...row...row.

Tuesday Jul 8, 2008 #

orienteering 30:00 [2]

Setting up the line O' course for next week's training at Bonner. I ran in a nice cool rain.

other 15:00 [2]

Some rowing.

Monday Jul 7, 2008 #

Note

An earned day off = 1 point.

Spent a sweaty half an hour pushing the mower around the yard.

running 1:30:00 [2]

Went for a jog at Happy Jack. Warm and humid, so I took it extra easy. It felt good for about 45 minutes, then started getting la bit tough. I struggled for about 10 minutes just after I'd been out for an hour, then started feeling ok again.

other 15:00 [2]

Easy. Feeling a bit tired.

Saturday Jul 5, 2008 #

other 30:00 [2]

A lazy day. Slept late. Took it pretty easy. Watched TDF on TV. Did a bit of training in the basement.

Friday Jul 4, 2008 #

running 30:00 [2]

We planned to run at PNS but ran into a traffic jam on the outskirts of Parkville. I think it must be some sort of July 4th festival. Instead we went to Wyandotte and did a bit of road shuffling.

other 15:00 [2]

Mary acquired a new toy for the Joneski household. I spent a bit of time testing it out.

Thursday Jul 3, 2008 #

running 25:00 [2]

Running on the river trail.

If I were in Sweden, I'd say it was "ganska fuktigt" out there.

running 5:00 [4]

2 x 2 x 400 meters (with one minute of walking for recovery). Felt ok.

Wednesday Jul 2, 2008 #

cycling 1:05:00 [2]

MTB on the river trails. I managed to stay upright the entire time, but came very close to falling at one point.

Warm - hot even - when I was riding. But, as I was driving home I could see some big storms developing. It was fun to watch the lightning and dark skies. As I arrived at home the sky was getting green and the rain was just starting. I thought about how much Patrick would like to see a real Kansas thunderstorm instead of one of those South Carolina wanna-be thunderstorms.

Tuesday Jul 1, 2008 #

running 35:00 [2]

Easy jog (except it didn't really feel easy) on the river trails.
