running 45:00 [3]

Jogging at PNS. I guess I shouldn't be surprised to see someone dressed like a clown on Halloween. But, it was still surprising to encounter someone dressed like a clown and hiking the trails at PNS.

Tuesday Oct 30, 2007 #

running 20:00 [3]

Jogged around the neighborhood for a bit. Felt strange. My right knee felt unusual.

Sunday Oct 28, 2007 #

running 1:30:00 [2]

I ran on the trails at Smithville. I carried the map (a modified USGS with nearly all of the trails added) and spent some time reading it. Very nice (in the traditional way) weather - low 50s, clear and sunny.

Hanging tapes at Woodridge. I moved control locations to try to make the course a bit more pleasant. The deep grass was tough to bet through.

Thursday Oct 25, 2007 #

running 35:00 [2]

The usual jogging around at PNS.

running 10:00 [3]

The usual 3 x Old Man Intervals.

Note

Where is the young lady and the Chipotle veggie burrito?

Tuesday Oct 23, 2007 #

running 45:00 [2]

Jogging around at PNS. Felt ok. Saw loads and loads of turkeys.

About half of tonight's run was in new O' shoes I got in Chicago.

warming up

orienteering 1:10:00 [4]

Chicago A-meet M40. Some troubles with one control, otherwise reasonable if a bit slow and not motivated as well as I should have been.

Took a strange fall on the way to the last control - wrist still sore a couple of days later.

Fun weekend.

running 20:00 [1]

2 x ~ 10 minutes of running to warm up before each race.

Chicago middle distance M40 at Busse Woods. It took me 400 meters (and a good 6 minutes!) to understand the map. After that things worked pretty well. Fun.

Sprint at Chicago Busse Woods.

Buckley started ahead of me and I told the starter, "I'll give him at least 2 minutes so I don't see him in the forest." The starter said something like, "oh 2 minutes, you won't see Buckley."

I caught up to Buckley at about the half way point. Apparently Eric had been making some mistakes. I don't know where he went from 6, but he passed me on the way to the last control.

Fun sprint. Legs shot by the end of the day.

Thursday Oct 18, 2007 #

running 45:00 [3]

Jogging at PNS. Saw a lot of turkeys out there.

Wednesday Oct 17, 2007 #

running 20:00 [2]

Easy jog around the neighborhood - felt good.

Tuesday Oct 16, 2007 #

running 40:00 [2]

Easy jogging at PNS.

Near the end I stopped and chatted with a couple who I see once a week or so. They hike around the park and we also exchange "hi"s. It turns out they walk in the park 6 days a week and have donated one of the benches along the trail (which has their names Wilburn and Venietta engraved on a plaque attached to the bench).

orienteering 1:15:00 [2]

Shuffled around on the map at Heartland, checking locations and legs for the upcoming PTOC training camp.

I wore the knee brace on my right knee. It might have made a bit of difference in how I felt running. I'll try it for the next few runs.

Warm out there today.

Mary and I went to Knob Noster for a little training.

I ran slowly but made some good progress on getting my technique to work a bit. My stupid knee (the right one) gave me some trouble.

I ran with glasses in the rain. I'd never done that before and was curious about how much trouble it would be. It wasn't as bad as I'd expected.

Friday Oct 12, 2007 #

running 35:00 [2]

Some easy jogging at PNS. Actually, it wasn't really easy, it was slow.

I saw lots and lots of turkeys.

Thursday Oct 11, 2007 #

cycling 30:00 [1]

Long day at work left me feeling uninspired...but the least I could do is spend some time on the trainer.

Wednesday Oct 10, 2007 #

running 30:00 [2]

Easy jogging. My legs still feel a little "seg" after Sunday's run.

Sunday Oct 7, 2007 #

running race 1:15:00 [4]

Sandrat race on the river trails in Lawrence.

I was satisfied with how I ran, but it is distressing how slow I ran.

Warm (mid 70s when I woke up at 6 a.m., probably a bit warmed at the start) and heavy humidity.

My right hip was a bit sore the last couple of miles.

Saturday Oct 6, 2007 #

running 15:00 [1]

Easy jogging to warm up.

PTOC at SMP. I started the red course and within the first couple of controls started having some breathing problems. I guess it is allergies. I cut the course short and DNF'd.

Thursday Oct 4, 2007 #

running 45:00 [2]

Easy jogging at PNS.

Not sleeping well the last few nights. Maybe that is why I felt so lethargic?

Tuesday Oct 2, 2007 #

running 30:00 [2]

Jogging at PNS. The afternoon's rain left some of the trails a bit muddy. I picked up enough mud on my shoes that they felt heavy.

running 10:00 [4]

3 x Old Man Intervals. Felt slow.

Monday Oct 1, 2007 #

cycling 30:00 [1]

A little bit of time on the trainer.
