I jogged around on the WCOC map picking up controls. By the end I was tired. I walked down the last hill and had a hard time imagining running down in. ST=156.

I ran a control picking course at Harriman. I also spent about 90 minutes hiking around and reading the map. ST=120.

Thursday Oct 23, 2003 #

cycling 25:00 [1]

A few minutes on the trainer before leaving for the airport.

Wednesday Oct 22, 2003 #

cycling 30:00 [1]

I seem to have improved a lot today. Mook might attribute it to the veggie burrito I ate last night.

running 25:00 [1]

Time to see how running would feel. I stopped at PNS on the way home from work and shuffled around a bit. I didn't feel great, but I don't think running did any harm. Another warm day (80).

Monday Oct 20, 2003 #

Note

Geez, mowing felt like work. Hard to believe but the temp was in the mid/upper 80s (which is probably why mowing felt like such a chore). Late October and we're running the air conditioning.

I did the bunny loop on my mountain bike. It wasn't perfect, but it was "a lot better than lying around on a couch with a head cold, eating cheetos and watching re-runs of Gilligan's Island all day." My plan is to take tomorrow off, then do a jog on Tuesday.

Saturday Oct 18, 2003 #

Note

I'd planned to ride my bike for 20-30 minutes to see how I felt. But, I felt a bit crappy all day. I'll see how I feel tomorrow and if I feel better, do a short bike ride.

Tuesday Oct 14, 2003 #

Note

I don't think walking yesterday made my any worse. But, I'm sick. It feels like a strong cold. Yuck. I'm sure the travel didn't help. Mary was interviewed by Health Canada as we left Toronto (part of their SARS monitoring program). Being sick sucks.

Mary is still sick. I woke up in the middle of the night with congestion and a sore throat. I decided I would walk the first loop of the red course. I did that, but the terrain was so nice that I decided to walk the second loop too. I hope that the effort doesn't make my sickness worse. ST=110.

The second GLOF day. I didn't quite get my mind working the way it should. I boomed a couple of controls. Not a terrible run, but not what I ought to do. Another cool area and good map and course. ST=94.

Saturday Oct 11, 2003 #

orienteering 1:00:00 [4]

The first day at GLOF. I ran M35 and had a clean run. Fantastic terrain and an interesting course. ST=77.

Friday Oct 10, 2003 #

Note

Spent some of the day watching the World Cycling Champs in Hamilton. Mary started to get sick.

Thursday Oct 9, 2003 #

Note

Traveling to the GLOF today.

I ran around at PNS. My plan was to mow the lawn when I got home. But I just have no interest in mowing the lawn. It'll be there tomorrow.

I did a long, easy run at Landahl. I carried the map and read it. Normally I only consider a run to be "orienteering" if I'm running a course. But I paid attention to reading the map all day today, so I'll count it. About 1/3rd of the time I was running on un-mapped new mtb trails. I followed the trails and kept track of where I was (sort of like mapping a trail). The rest of the time I just followed mapped trails and kept very close map contract. I also...

...did a short control picking course (took about 13 minutes) at an honest effort. ST=67.

cycling 30:00 [1]

My legs felt a bit tired, but putting a bit of time on the trainer seemed like the responsible thing to do. I also got to test my new speedreader.

Saturday Oct 4, 2003 #

running 45:00 [2]

I ran on trails (even a bit in the forest) at Wyandotte. I did 4x the 3+ minute hill north of the parking lot with the kitten. I took it easy on the hill. In the distance I could just make out the roar of the Winston Cup practice at the speedway.

cycling 45:00 [1]

Right after the run I rode my mountain bike on the roads at Wyandotte. I did a bit more than on lap.

Friday Oct 3, 2003 #

cycling 30:00 [1]

A little ride on the trainer.

Thursday Oct 2, 2003 #

running 1:15:00 [2]
ahr:142

I shuffled around PNS. The turkeys are back (only saw 5). On my last time past the dam I encountered a man with three dogs. Two of the dogs were full size poodles. Flashback...the U.S. Champs, where a poodle jumped on me on day one...

Wednesday Oct 1, 2003 #

cycling 30:00 [1]

Just a short easy ride on the trainer.
