cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute. The trip home was interrupted by a work-visit to the Chancellor's Office.

rowing 20:00 [1]

Row, row.

Thursday Sep 29, 2011 #

cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute.

running 40:00 [2]

I ran on the trails at Clinton. I felt pretty good, but I also felt like 40 minutes was enough.

cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute.

Another long work day...this time I had the SWTF.

cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute.

I had a long work day and wasn't home until 11:30.

The CC meeting when long because one item drew a lot of public comment:

Though, another issue was quite interesting:

Monday Sep 26, 2011 #

cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute. Cold enough in the morning that I was decked out in 66 North. Warm enough in the afternoon that I was in shirtsleeves.

running 50:00 [2]

Easy, mindless jogging on the trails at Clinton. My foot was fine.

Note

Can't say it is my favorite quote....

running 45:00 [2]

Not much of a run. I was on the trails at Wyandotte Lake (after spending a couple of hours touring Deffenbaugh's recycling facility and landfill). From the start my foot hurt. I figured it wouldn't get any worse and just kept going. But, it did get worse. I turned around after about 25 minutes and went back.

I think it'll be ok in a day or 2. I'll give it another try tomorrow, I think.

After I got home, we went to the movies and saw Moneyball. I thought it was a bit slow moving, but I'm interested in the subject and that didn't really bother me. It isn't a great movie, but I enjoyed it. I hadn't realized how prominently the Royals would be. It was actually almost like a prototypical Royal's game - they did well enough to get your hopes up, but not well enough to win the game.

cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute.

rowing 20:00 [1]

My foot was a bit sore all day. When I was running on the trails yesterday I stepped on a pointy rock. The Inov 8's have a thin sole and I bruised the bottom of my foot. I took it extra easy today.

cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute.

running 27:48 intensity: (15:00 @2) + (12:48 @4)

Short run on the trails at Clinton. I did a bit of a warm up and then ran my short running test. The plan is to use the test 1x a month. Last month I ran 13:50. This time I ran 12:48. Some of the improvement is that I am running a bit better. Some of the improvement was that the weather was nice (about 70 rather than 90 or whatever it was last month).

Wednesday Sep 21, 2011 #

cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute. Another long day at the office - an interesting mix or remarkably useful and substantive discussions/work and also dealing with some rather annoying junk.

running 20:00 [2]

Short run on West Campus. I had my headlamp out for the first time this season.

Tuesday Sep 20, 2011 #

cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute. It was a long day, including attending the first part of the CC meeting.

Monday Sep 19, 2011 #

cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute. The trip to work was an interesting mix of brilliant sun and heavy fog.

rowing 20:00 [1]

Row, row. The stupid finger that I hurt was a bit uncomfortable.

Sunday Sep 18, 2011 #

running 20:00 [2]

Some jogging around as I put out controls for the event at Robinson. Rainy most of the time.

Saturday Sep 17, 2011 #

11 AM

running 1:00:00 intensity: (30:00 @2) + (30:00 @4)

Trail run at Clinton. I included 30 minutes of 70/20s at an honest effort. I managed to time my run so that I started in the heaviest rain of the day (so far). It wasn't really very heavy, but it was enough to make the first 10 minutes feel a bit cold.

orienteering 5:00 [2] ***

Just a little bit of orienteering on the way back to the trail head.

Friday Sep 16, 2011 #

cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute. It was cool and a light rain was falling as I left the house this morning. It was a perfect chance to try out my stylish new Fall jacket.

running 25:00 [2]

Easy jog on the trails at Clinton overlook. Relaxing.

Thursday Sep 15, 2011 #

cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute. Cool in the a.m., but not in the 30s as had been forecast.

Note

The plan was to do a short trail run. But, I was mentally drained by the time I got home and just haven't got the energy to get out the door. I spent the work day reading a 3 page response memo from the city manager and being alternatively annoyed and stunned.

cycling 25:00 [1]

Biking to/from the start area at Robinson.

Course testing at the Robinson map. We've got two sprint courses for the event this Sunday. I think it'll be ok.

Very nice evening to be out. Must have been about 62F with a light wind and clear sky. The place was crawling with students playing football, volleyball, tennis, soccer, etc.

Tuesday Sep 13, 2011 #

cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute.

rowing 20:00 [1]

Row, row....followed by a nice dinner with Mary to celebrate the day after our anniversary.

Monday Sep 12, 2011 #

cycling 40:00 [1]

Work commute. It got a bit hot again.

I also went to the SWTF meeting. The meeting was covered by Chad at the LJWorld:

The comments are bound to be strange.

Sunday Sep 11, 2011 #

running 2:00:00 [2]

Long, slow run on the trails at Clinton. I carried a base map and read it a fair amount. It is interesting to see how much more effort it takes when you start to get tired. I was tired the last 20 minutes and focusing on the map was much more work. A little sport drink would have been good, I think.

Note

GPS + video + O'map from yesterday' sprint.

running 20:00 [2]

Warm up jog.

PTOC sprint at Antioch Park. Here's the map:

http://sprintseries.org/doma/show_map.php?user=spi...

I was happy with my run. First, my calf felt good. Second, running felt good. Third, I was 2 minutes ahead of Joe B. and another 2 minutes ahead of Matt B. It is fun to beat the young guys.

I ran with the headcam and will probably post the video tomorrow.

I jogged around the short course. It turns out I mispunched at the control next to the wedding party posing for photos. There were two controls and I went to the wrong one. I was trying to avoid interrupting the photos, but I think in my effort to do that, I didn't really look at the map!

Friday Sep 9, 2011 #

cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute. I got caught in a brief but heavy rain on the way home.

running 20:00 [2]

Easy jog. My calf feels ok but still not normal.

Thursday Sep 8, 2011 #

Note

I've seen a white squirrel, but I've never seen a white moose:

cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute. I had a new kind of near-miss today. I was behind a car that had stopped at a stop sign. Suddenly, the driver put the car in reverse and backed up about half a car length. I had to move sideways or get caught between the backing car and the car that was behind me.

rowing 20:00 [1]

Row, row.

I figured I'd take it easy and hang out with Mary tonight. But, I've barely even seen her as she's been running around the house packing for her trip.

Today is an anniversary of sorts....45 years ago the first episode of Star Trek aired....37 years ago President Ford pardoned Richard Nixon....and 10 years ago I ran fast for the last time.

Wednesday Sep 7, 2011 #

cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute - perfect weather.

running 45:00 [2]

I ran the trails at Clinton overlook. I carried a map and read it a fair amount of the time - working mostly on folding/orienting and seeing features as far off as possible (also doing some mental re-mapping in a few places). After a bit I decided to lighten up on the map reading - if I start doing too much technique training, Anna will never have a chance to beat me.

Tuesday Sep 6, 2011 #

cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute. The temp when I left the house this morning was in the 40s! It felt very, very good.

Note

Resting my calf. It is much better, but still a bit tight.

Some O technique at Happy Jack. Slow and sloppy at times. I took a break mid-session and made a video I'll post later.

Updated with a video of part of the training (Iphone camera + dollycam + tilt shift video and edited in Imovie). I jogged the leg holding the Iphone in from of me, then used software to speed up the video to 2x real time.

Ran a course at Pitcher Hill. Fun. Cut the course a bit short when my calf acted up.

Thursday Sep 1, 2011 #

cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute.

On the trip in, I stopped at a bakery. It was fun to chat with one of the guys who works there. He knows about my work and was very complimentary. I should get out into the community and talk to people more. It is interesting and it leaves you feeling better. The day-to-day work place interactions are not nearly as satisfying. I guess that's something that comes with the profession.

Slept poorly last night and feeling a bit tired all day.

Oh yeah, and another miserably hot day (reach 104F, I think).
