Note

Nearly well. I guess. I hope.

Pushed the mower around the yard. I'll try running tomorrow.

running 1:35:00 [2]

What I should have done = 30 minutes easy jogging. But, what I did was 95 on the river trails in Lawrence. I still haven't returned to "normal." I jogged, shuffled really, on the trails at a very easy pace, but my h.r. was high and kept creeping up over time. Fortunately, the weather was nice (upper 70s, low humidity, nice wind out of the north).

After the run, we drove around Lawrence a bit, checking out some different parts of town.

running 20:00 [2]

Whatever has been wrong with me is more-or-less over. So, I went for a little jog after work. It was warm and humid. I moved slowly. I had fun.

I don't really like running when it is warm and humid. I wish summer was short...hmmmm...reminds me of another video that Lisa will find amusing...

Note

An earned day off = 1 point.

I'm at the City Commission meeting. It is nice that they've got WiFi so that I can update my log (even if I didn't do any training) during the meeting.

MTB on the river trails. I felt much better than last week - didn't fall off and managed to handle the sandy spots without any trouble. I'm still a bit of a klutz on a bike, but I'm learning. Fun.

Fun...except I had a cheesy Swedish pop tune stuck in my head. It was actually quite disturbing, I'm tempted to say that "it hurts":

running 1:00:00 [2]

Hilly trail at Wyandotte. I figured I'd try to keep a reasonable effort on the climbs even though my legs felt a bit shot from yesterday. It turned out that I was able to keep a reasonable pace on the climbs. The relatively nice temp and low humidity helped.

running 10:00 [2]

A bit of jogging to warm up. It took about ten steps to break a sweat.

running 21:30 [4]

Trail race at Wyandotte. I hadn't planned to do this race, but Mary wanted to do it.

The course was something less than 5 K (the organizer said it was about 2.9 miles measured with a bike wheel and a bit over 4 km measured by a Garmin 305). The course was really nice - we began with a short bit in a picnic area then went into single track along the edge of the lake; the turn around was on the steps at the spillway; on the return trip we made a bit of a swing up the hill away from the lake shore; and then finished back in the picnic ground. The climb was more than I'd expected - the organizer said it was about 300 feet of climb and nearly all of it came over a stretch of about 500-600 meters.

I ran pretty well. It was fun. I think I'd run a lot more races if there were more races like this one (5K or so, on trails).

running 25:00 [2]

Easy jogging on the river trail. The idea was to get some fresh air and feel like I'd done some moving.

Eric Buckley would probably approve. I took my mountain bike out on the trails! I did a bit on the river trails. I hadn't ridden off road with clipless pedals before. I fell over once. I was on a short steep hill and near the top I had wheelspin - tipped over before I could unclip my feet. On the second lap I did a better job of holding speed and managed to get around without falling.

The trail was sandy in a few spots. There must be some good technique riding through sand. I don't know what it is. I felt unsure as the front wheel slide around. I didn't fall, so maybe I've just got to get more comfortable with the feeling of the wheel sliding.

Lots of fun.

At the end of the trail I met a big group of trail runners.

running 30:00 [2]

Jogging on the river trail. Nice day for a run, not too hot and low humidity.

running 10:00 [4]

6 x 400 meters with 1 minute rests. Felt mostly ok.

My left knee felt a little bit strange. During the day I tweaked it while walking up the hall.

Note

An earned day off = 1 point.

A good day to mow the yard.

running 1:20:00 [2]

A hilly jog at Wyandotte. I figured that I should get started earlier rather than later, hoping to avoid the worst weather. I should have checked the forecast. Running in the nice, cool rain of the afternoon would have been better than running in the still, heavy humidity of the morning.

The breathing trouble I was having yesterday continues, though not as bad as yesterday.

I was pleased to see some good results from my O'manager teams. Men finished 6th, women finished 10th, in TioMila.

orienteering 30:00 [2]

Testing a contours-only line-O' exercise that I'll probably use for next month's training session at Bonner. Fun - using a 1 meter contour interval gives you lots of detail to look at even in a simple park. I didn't feel very good physically (probably a mix of heat, humidity, and breathing in dust in the basement).

cycling 30:00 [2]

A little spin on the mtb on the top of the levee. Very nice day for a ride. There is some sort of 1/2 ironman in Lawrence this weekend. I hope they get good weather.

running 30:00 [2]

Jogging on the river trail. Warm and humid. Some thunderstorms off to the west.

running 10:00 [4]

6 x 400 meters with 1 minute rest. I increased the rest from the last interval session. I figured that'd help deal with the humidity and let me keep the last 400 at a good pace.

Note

The big storm to the west came through an hour or so after I was done running. LJ World reported:

Other sporadic power outages have been reported in an area north of Eudora and west of Linwood, where there were reports of several tornadoes briefly on the ground.

Tornadoes were reported on the ground near Eudora, however they quickly retreated back into a storm heading toward Linwood and De Soto.

Here is a nice snapshot of the storm over the KU Campus O' map:

cycling 45:00 [2]

On the MTB on the top of the levee. Windy and warm. My body isn't used to sitting on a bicycle.

Saw several OKers today. Fritz dropped by my office. Snorkel dropped by my house. Good to see both of them.

Tuesday Jun 10, 2008 #

Note

For some reason I slept badly last night. I felt worn out all day and decided a day off made sense. I used the day off to mow the lawn.

Sunday Jun 8, 2008 #

running 1:00:00 [2]

Slow jogging on the big hill at Wyandotte. After about 45 minutes, my legs were tired.

cycling 30:00 [2]

A bit of riding (MTB on the roads) around the neighborhood. I wanted to check the adjustment on my pedals (trying to get the clipless pedals set so that they were a bit looser and consistent between pedals) and checking out the colors of front doors on new houses. The dominant colors are a dark red and a dark green

Jogging around to warm up.

PTOC Stoll Park sprint. Fun and worked hard. The problem was that one control was in the wrong place and I spent almost 4 minutes bashing around in the woods trying to find it. Bummer. But, still a lot of fun.

After the run we hung out for the annual PTOC pot luck (but skipped out when the annual PTOC meeting began).

It was a fun to see Fritz, Pete and Madeline.

running 30:00 [2]

A short jog - legs felt good.

Thursday Jun 5, 2008 #

running 30:00 [2]

On the river trail. Warm and humid, with strong wind. A few big branches and one tree had already fallen on the trail (and the forecast is for some really strong wind tonight). I saw someone camping in a tent along the trail. I hope they have the sense to move before the storms.

running 10:00 [4]

6 x 400 meters with 50 seconds rest. I increased the rest a bit compared to last week. I was able to hold my pace better than last week. But, the last 400 was uncomfortable.,

Wednesday Jun 4, 2008 #

Note

The plan was a 30-40 minute run followed by mowing. But, I left work a bit late and decided that I'd either skip running or mowing. The lawn is deep, so I skipped running.

Monday Jun 2, 2008 #

running 25:00 [2]

Short, slow jogging. My legs felt a bit tired, but it felt good to do a bit of jogging.

1 point.

Sunday Jun 1, 2008 #

running 1:55:00 [2]

Long slow run on the trails at Smithville. The trails were in good shape. The mtb club mows them in the summer, keeping the grass reasonable (and reducing the number of ticks you pick up). I met 3 of the mtbers doing some trail maintenance and chatted a bit. Looks like a lot of work.

Mary and I got to Smithville around 10:30. It was already warm and the temp kept going up. I kept a steady pace but the temp kept my h.r. unusually high.
