running 25:00 [2]

Easy trail jog. I cut the session short because it was hot (mid/upper 90s) and I needed to get home and mow the lawn. Mowing in this heat is going to suck, but it needs to be done. I think I'll relax in the AC and maybe drink some nice cool water, then go mow.

running 55:00 [2]

Jogging around at PNS.

running 20:00 [4]

6 x 3:20 old man intervals on the flat trails. Recovery was walking and jogging for about 3 minutes.

On the last loop, I rounded a bend in the trail and found myself in the middle of a group of about 6-8 turkettes (i.e. turkeys born this season) and one mama-turkey. Lots of feathers and little birds running all around. It was pretty cool to see. I felt a bit bad about stressing the birds, but what can you do?

running 30:00 [2]

Nice day -- low humidity and maybe 80 -- so I stopped at PNS on the way home and shuffled around the park a bit.

cycling 1:30:00 [1]

Went over to Wyandotte and did some road riding on my MTB. Felt ok. When I bike I tend to get sore in my shoulders, upper back. I guess the bike doesn't quite fit right or something.

My second training of the day will be some more easy cycling (probably in the basement while watching OLN's TDF preview show).

cycling 30:00 [1]

A little bit on the trainer.

running 1:55:00 [3]

OK's 4th annual MOP run (street O' in Lawrence). I decided to do the 2 hour category rather than the 3 hour. In prior years (when there hasn't been an option - all did 3 hours), I've suffered for the next few days. I think the pounding on pavement is the cause. So, two hours seemed about right.

I started ok and felt fine for about 70 minutes. Then I started feeling off for maybe 10 minutes. Then I struggled to make my way back to the start/finish. I really died. Heat? Sun?

Later in the day, I felt really worn out. Feet sore, too.

We got a decent turnout (including a LJ World photograher).

cycling 30:00 [1]

Easy cycling. Tomorrow will be about 2 (or maybe 3?) hours on pavement.

running 50:00 [2]

Jogging at PNS on the way home from work.

We had some rain and cool temps today -- the high was probably 82. Though it was humid.

running 15:00 [4]

5 x 3 minutes with 3 minutes easy (a bit of walking and then easy jogging) as rest.

When I began the first one, I heard a voice behind me -- "hey Mike, is that you?"

At first, I feared it was "lazy Spike" (who certainly would have talked me in to taking it much easier and going for an ice cream on the way home).

It turned out to be Bruce Duffin. Bruce ran the intervals with me. It was nice to have some company. It probably made me go a bit harder for the first couple.

cycling 30:00 [1]

Another very easy day.

It'll be interesting to see how it goes tomorrow. Will everything be fine? Will "the lazy Spike" show up?

Tuesday Jun 20, 2006 #

running 1:00:00 [2]

Jogging on the trails (mostly flat) at PNS. I did 10 minutes of something like old man intervals. But, I kept the pace a little bit below an honest effort. The idea was that I should take it easy another day or two.

cycling 30:00 [1]

Another day where I feel like I feel better. Maybe I'm finally healthy?

I spent a few minutes on the trainer in the basement. I'll try to run tomorrow.

Sunday Jun 18, 2006 #

cycling 30:00 [1]

Am I well yet? I'm not quite. I did a little time on the trainer.

The highlight of the day was meeting up with the RAAM riders (shuttling Dave to the crew and getting Sandy to the airport). It was very inspiring to see those guys.

Saturday Jun 17, 2006 #

Note

Plan for today = get up early, run about an hour (hilly), then do some biking.

But, when I went to bed last night, I spent nearly two hours hacking and coughing. Then slept like a log until after 9 a.m. I guess my body isn't really recovered from being sick.

I'll take the day off.

Friday Jun 16, 2006 #

running 30:00 [2]

Easy PNS run on the way home. Feeling close to normal.

It was warm (low/mid 90s) and a strong, steady south wind was blowing. Not the nicest weather for running, but it was nicer than it'd be for riding a bike across Kansas.

Thursday Jun 15, 2006 #

running 25:00 [2]

Probably should have taken the day off again, but I really felt the need to do some jogging. I stopped at PNS and shuffled around the trails a little. Just as I was leaving, Mary arrived at the parking lot.

Wednesday Jun 14, 2006 #

Note

Feeling better, but still a bit sick. No training (though I spent 40 minutes pushing the mower around the yard). If things go as expected, I'll do something light tomorrow -- either a short jog or some time on the trainer.

Monday Jun 12, 2006 #

cycling 20:00 [1]

20 minutes on the trainer is, essentially, nothing. But, I felt like moving a little bit would be a good thing in my quest to recover from jet lag.

My cold seems significantly better, but I'm not normal yet.

Note

Long Day = Uppsala to Arlanda to Philadelphia to Kansas City.

Training at Lunsen!!

I met Hammer and we went the the plantskola. We traded maps and I went out and ran a course. I made a huge boom. I spent a good 15 minutes wandering around trying to figure out which knoll was which and which marsh was which. Other than that huge boom, I navigated well.

In the afternoon, we went over to Kung Bjorns Hojd and I ran around the sprint course. The map is 1:1500 with a lot of detail. The orienteering was really fun, high intensity even when you weren't actually moving fast.

I didn't have contols (which during the race on this map were just SI units sitting on the ground) and took it a bit extra careful to make sure I actually went to the right spot.

Nice post-run visit and dinner with the Waddsquad (including watching the Sweden-TT match from the World Cup).

Note

Saturday Jun 3, 2006 #

cycling 30:00 [1]

A bit of time on the trainer (watching a Monk re-run I'd never seen before).

Leaving for Sweden in an hour or so. I'd better finish packing.

Thursday Jun 1, 2006 #

running 35:00 [2]

Jogging at PNS.

running 10:00 [4]

3 x 3:20 old man intervals on the flat trails. My legs felt sore, but not weak.

Spotted a copperhead (nearly stepped on it, in fact), which is something I've never seen at PNS before.
