running 40:00 [2]

Jogging at PNS. I stopped to talk with a woman who I see most times I'm in the park. She wanders around watching the animals and keeping a notebook of where and when she sees the animals. She probably doesn't like me running along the trails, scaring away the animals (though most of the animals just take a few steps away when I pass by). I climbed 300 feet.

running 1:00 [4]

3 x 3:20 "old man" intervals. The cooler weather (in the low/mid 60s I'd guess) helped a lot.

I ran at PNS on the way home. I did 8 x 30 seconds of fast running. This was a strange run. Parts of it felt awful, parts felt very good. It seemed like the longer I ran, the better I felt. That was kind of fun. I climbed 600 feet.

Monday Sep 26, 2005 #

running 30:00 [2]

Easy trail jog at PNS on the way home from work. I climbed 240 feet.

Sunday Sep 25, 2005 #

cycling 30:00 [1]

30 minutes on the trainer. Is that all? Yes, it is.

Saturday Sep 24, 2005 #

running 45:00 [2]

Roads at Wyandotte. My legs felt really good. I climbed 300 feet.

Friday Sep 23, 2005 #

running 35:00 [2]

After another good night of sleep I'm feeling a lot better. I jogged around at PNS. Running didn't feel very good.

running 10:00 [4]

My usual PNS 3 x 3:20 on the flat trail. All the rain made the trail a bit wet and slick in a couple of spots. The first effort felt terrible. The next two felt normal.

Thursday Sep 22, 2005 #

Note

Still feeling sleepy. Strange.

Wednesday Sep 21, 2005 #

cycling 30:00 [1]

Sleepy today.

Tuesday Sep 20, 2005 #

running 55:00 [2]

I ran at PNS and cut the run a bit shorter than planned because my glasses kept sliding down my nose. I usually run in contacts, but I forgot to bring them to work. I also did 8 x 30 seconds of what I call sprints (I'm not going very fast). I climbed 500 feet.

running 1:45:00 [2]
ahr:135

My normal hilly trail route at Weston Bend. I'm getting a bit bored with Weston Bend. My legs felt a bit heavy on the hills, but good everywhere else. I climbed 1400 feet.

cycling 30:00 [1]

Easy cycling while watching the Vuelta on TV.

Saturday Sep 17, 2005 #

running 50:00 [2]

I ran on the roads at Wyandotte. Beautiful conditions -- temp in the 60s and dry.

running 10:00 [4]

I ran a bit hard on the uphills. The first one was 2 minutes. The second was 3:30 and the last was 4:30 (actually the last was 4, but I kept going when the hill flattened out to make it an even ten minutes of hard-ish running).

cycling 1:00:00 [1]

I'm sitting at home drinking a cup of coffee and watching the NASCAR qualifying on TV when the phone rings. It was Snorkel. He was on his way to go training! I felt inspired to get up, shut off the TV and get the MTB out for a bit of time on the bunny loop.

The loop is closed on one end for some construction. I'm afraid that traffic is going to get heavy once the new park is open at the southeast corner of the bunny.

The wind blew strongly from the south. Heading north felt great, coming home felt like climbing a hill.

cycling 30:00 [1]

Some time on the trainer.

Tuesday Sep 13, 2005 #

cycling 30:00 [1]

I don't feel tired, but my legs feel beat up from the weekend. I rode the trainer to break a sweat and move a bit.

Mega event at Pawtuckaway. Really fun. I had some ups and downs in concentration. I got tired a few times and was worn out by the end. Fun.

orienteering race 20:00 [4] *****

First sprint race. It went so-so until I stumbled a bit and freaked out for about 300 meters. Thinking about running and not hurting myself. Should have been thinking about finding the controls.

Second sprint race. Boomed the first control. Once again, thinking about running. But, this time I wasn't worried about hurting myself. That's progress.

Sprint race number 3. This time my mind was working. I had a much better race. Running went ok, though I felt the first two races.

running 35:00 [2]

I shuffled around at PNS. I stopped to watch a big pack (or flock?) of turkeys. I also took a couple of snapshots of the waterfall. I threw in 8 x 30 seconds at a (for me) really fast pace. I climbed 180 feet.

Tuesday Sep 6, 2005 #

cycling 30:00 [1]

Some easy cycling on the trainer.

Monday Sep 5, 2005 #

running 1:50:00 [2]

Jogging around (very "judy") at Weston Bend. I felt a bit dead at the beginning, but felt better and better as I went. I climbed 1440 feet and took about three big spider webs right in the face.

cycling 40:00 [1]

I was just sitting in a chair and watching the U.S. Open; when I decided that I may as well watch the U.S. Open from the trainer.

Sunday Sep 4, 2005 #

running 50:00 [2]

Jogging on the trails at PNS, including 8 x 30 seconds at a quick pace (i.e. a feeble sprint). I climbed 260 feet.

cycling 30:00 [1]

Ho hum.

Saturday Sep 3, 2005 #

running 1:00:00 [2]
ahr:131

Slow, easy run at Wyandotte on the roads. My legs didn't feel very good for the first 30 minutes. I climbed 400 feet.

running 50:00 [2] **
ahr:132

I went to HCC after running at Wyandotte (a ten minute drive and on the way home). I met Dick, Nancy, Kevin, Mike S. and two HCC folks at the parking lot. I went for a jog with the map while the GPS-folks walked trails to add to the map. Dick demonstrated his computer that he can wear. He attaches a GPS and can walk around with a little dot on the OCAD map.

I took it pretty easy. I was tired by the end. I was trying to imagine what it is like to run 12 hours, like Eric B. is doing today. Right now (1:45 p.m.) Eric is just a bit over half way.

cycling 40:00 [1]

Some time on the trainer. Eric B. still has another 90 minutes to go.

Thursday Sep 1, 2005 #

running 30:00 [2]

Jogging around at Bonner Park, putting out tapes and picking up tapes. Mary designed a park O' course with 3 loops. Nadim, Nancy and I each put out tapes on one loop, then we ran the loops. Fun.

orienteering 15:00 [4] ***
ahr:160 6c

Two loops of the park O' course. I didn't feel like I was moving fast, but I was working fairly hard. It wasn't hot, but the humidity was high.
