running 30:00 [2]

Easy jogging at PNS. The rain stopped. I was lucky because I wasn't ready for 45 and rainy. I was barely ready for 45.

running 20:00 [3]

2 x 10 minutes at just-barely-under an honest effort.

cycling 30:00 [1]

Some easy time on the trainer as soon as I got home from the run.

Snorkel and I did a nice relaxed run on the trails at Clinton State Park. We picked the pace up a bit on the way back (not that we ever went very fast). Despite the low pace, my legs were a bid dead by the end. Perfect weather for a run -- temp in the lower 50s at the start, probably got up to upper 50s by the end.

running 25:00 [2]

Jogging around on the trails at SMP. Just warming up.

running 15:00 [4]

I ran the SMP test loop in 15:30. I felt pretty slow at the end. I'll have to check out Mook's test loop records to see how my time compares to past times. I'm sure it was the fastest I've run since September 2001 (today was only the second time I've run the loop since then).

After the run I rode my mtb on the Mill Creek Trail (paved). I went north to the Kaw. My legs felt a bit dead after an hour or so.

cycling 40:00 [1]

Some easy time on the trainer.

Jogged at an easy pace at PNS. Great day for a run. I was suprised to spend 75 minutes at PNS without seeing a single turkey.

cycling 30:00 [1]

Some time on the trainer as soon as I got home from running. OLN was showing a bike race from San Francisco, which made for good watching while on the trainer.

Wednesday Sep 24, 2003 #

Note

I planned to do a short jog or ride, but I felt sort of crappy all day (left work a bit early). I also had to mow the lawn.

running 40:00 [2]

Easy jogging around at PNS. I saw the pack of turkeys (about 12 of them). For a change the park was full of people. I'd guess I saw more people than turkeys. Also did....

running 10:00 [4]

...the east trail loop at an honest effort. My time was 10:25. I'm thinking about using this as a test loop. Snorkel thinks it is too short. But, it is much more convenient than SMP.

cycling 30:00 [1]

Spent some time on the trainer as soon as I got home. I taped a stage of the Vuelta from this weekend and watched the first part of it. Bike races make for good company when you're on the trainer.

running 1:30:00 [2]

I jogged around at an easy effort at Wyandotte.

Instead of spending the afternoon sipping cappucino, reading the paper and watching the NASCAR race, I decided to spend a bit of time on the mountain bike. After changing, pumping up the tires and filling a water bottle, it started to rain. I checked the weather on the web and it looked like the rain wouldn't last, so I rode the bunny loop in the rain. My legs felt a bit seg.

The local O' season opened with a 1-hour score course at SMP. I felt slow, but managed to find all the controls with plenty of time to spare. Nick set the courses to keep us from having to spend too much time in the still thick forest. I thought the course was interesting. ST=62.

Nadim, Dan, Mary and I shuffled around at PNS. We only saw one turkey. We'd considered going to the stock car races, but ended up just haning out after the run eating take-out Chinese food.

Snorkel, Nadim and I ran on the Mill Creek trail. Weather was perfect for running - mid 50s and cloudy. So, I don't have any excuse for struggling to keep them in sight. It could have been a demoralizing experience, but I think it inspired me to get back in shape.

running 25:00 [2]

Jogged around at PNS. The main thing I wanted to do was see how my foot felt. It felt ok. I met the flock of turkeys. The young ones are nearly full grown.

Tuesday Sep 16, 2003 #

Note

Foot still sore. I mowed the lawn then iced the foot. I'll try a bit of jogging tomorrow. I might try a time trial on the test loop Thursday.

Second day at Fallen Leaf Lake. I ran a bit slow and lost a bit of time near the end. Most of the race went well -- I orienteered slowly and carefully. Near the end James Baker caught me when I lost almost three minutes on one leg then boomed a control. James got by me and I was with him for the last 600 meters or so. James was running stronger than me. I don't think he's ever been stronger than me. Turns out James has been training and it is paying off. I think I won M35. ST=38.

First day of the U.S Champs at Fallen Leaf Lake (BAOC). I had a decent run -- clean and moving quite well given the altitude (~6200 feet). I lost a bit of time in the beginning when I lost contact and bailed out. Part of my strategy was to bail out, especially in the beginning of the course. ST=22.

I jogged and walked around on the model event for the U.S. Champs. I learned a bit. ST = 6.

running 25:00 [4]

Grudge Match II. This time the bikers won. I ran much steadier than last time. Cooler weather (80s rather than near 100) helped. I eased off a bit for about 1 km near the end. My official time was 26:0? but the time on my watch was 26:19. Dan got me by about 30 seconds or so.

running 15:00 [2]

Jogging back from the finish (a place the bikers call "Lands End") to Gene's car at Lake Henry. It was beginning to get dark. Maybe someone can set up a night Grudge Match.

running 25:00 [2]
ahr:142

Jogged around a bit. It felt "pretty much ok."

Sunday Sep 7, 2003 #

cycling 30:00 [1]

Felt like I should do something to see how I felt. I rode the trainer in the basement for half an hour. I felt ok on the trainer, but tired afterwards.

Saturday Sep 6, 2003 #

Note

Still feeling a bit bad, so I called off the session with Snorkel. Meanwhile, our hard drive died (HP is replacing it but we'll be off line for a few days and I'm sure I've lost some stuff). On the good side, my foot feels normal.

Friday Sep 5, 2003 #

Note

Not normal yet. But, I'm feeling a lot better than yesterday. If I'm better tomorrow, I'll do an easy run with Snorkel.

Thursday Sep 4, 2003 #

Note

Feeling unwell. I came home from work early and took a nap.

I explored an area full of mountain bike trails (and spider webs) at Smithville Lake. The trails were great. It'll be a good running location this winter. It'd be cool if PTOC decided to map it. I was careful to run easy, and I iced my foot several times today. I had no trouble with my foot. I'll take it easy the next couple of days (and keep icing the foot a few times a day).
