running 25:00 [2]

I stopped at PNS on the way home from work. I ran for about 20 minutes and felt unmotivated. So, I jogged back to the car and went home.

Note

My once-a-week-to-mow-the-lawn day off. I figure I walked 1.5 miles pushing the mower around the yard. Swampfox mapped our yard a few years ago. Maybe I can use his map for some mowing/technique training?

Gene and I ran trails at Clinton State Park. The weather was a bit odd. When I left the house it was 74 and sunny. When we started running it was 63 and cloudy. During the run I felt a few drops of rain. By the end it was 70+ and sunny.

cycling 55:00 [1]

I took an easy ride on the bunny loop (first time this year, I think). It felt good to be on the road. I spent the morning following the women's race at Tio Mila and fit the biking in between that race and the start of the men's race.

cycling 30:00 [1]

My legs felt fine today. I expected soreness after yesterday. Some easy cycling tonight.

running 45:00 [2]

I jogged a bit at PNS, but most of the time I was at English Landing Park. ELP is a park on the Missouri riverfront in Parkville. It has a flat crushed gravel running/walking path that is maybe 2-2.5 miles. ELP is a popular place for exercise (but the cool/wet weather kept the crowd down today)....

...20 minutes of 70/20s at ELP. I'm not used to running on such a smooth/flat surface. My legs will be sore tomorrow.

cycling 30:00 [1]

Spent a few minutes on the trainer. I'd planned to ride outside, but the rain kept me in the basement.

running 55:00 [2]

Jogging around at Parkville Nature Sanctuary. I did some of Coach Revolting's exercises....

running 10:00 [4]

...5 x the rocky hill (abour 2:40 each time up)...

Road and trails at Weston Bend.

running 10:00 [4]
ahr:162

Near the end of the run at Weston Bend, I did a bit over ten minutes at an honest effort (as 70/20s).

The first bit of today's trail run/race. We started out following the event organizer. It was a good warm up and a good way to make sure you didn't miss any turns.

running 47:00 [4]
ahr:167

After the first 20 minutes, it was time to pick up the pace. The course was fun -- mostly flat on single track trails. We crossed the Blue River four times. At one point I had to wait for a minute for a train. The race organizers gave us trail maps, but I'd also printed out a USGS topo (with the trails overlayed). That made the navigation a lot easier. The event was a lot of fun.

The field was pretty small (maybe 25 folks) and the others had trouble running on trails and navigating. I won quite easily with Bob a bit behind.

Thursday Apr 17, 2003 #

running 45:00 [2]

Jogged around a bit (including a few minutes of Coach Revolting exercises).

Wednesday Apr 16, 2003 #

cycling 40:00 [1]

easy.

Tuesday Apr 15, 2003 #

running 40:00 [2]

Jogged around a bit. I passed a car crash a few blocks away. There was a big crowd of gawkers and at least one person was on a stretcher surrounded by paramedics. By the time I returned home, only one car and on cop were left. The damage to the car made it look like it must have been a head on crash and someone hit their head on the windshield. I'd think a seatbelt would keep you from hitting the windsheild.

My jog included a few "Coach Revolting" exercises.

Day 2 at Popolopen. Not a good day for me. My legs were tired. I screwed around on the leg between 2-3 and then let the rough running (near three and four, in particular), get me down. The weekend gives me a good sense of where I stand in my current training. I guess it is about what I'd expect (pretty much middle of the pack).

First day M21 at West Point (Bull Pond). I ran ok -- given my physical condition I probably couldn't have done much better. I tweaked my knee a bit near the end and ran the last 2km of the course feeling a bit uncomfortable in the rocks.

orienteering 45:00 [2]
12c

Jogging around at Bailey Town to get a bit used to running in the rocky terrain and have a chance to do some non-mid-west O'. It was a lot of fun.

Thursday Apr 10, 2003 #

Note

Flying to New York this evening. I'll try to get in 30 minutes or so of O' tomorrow to get used to running in the Hudson Valley rocks.

Wednesday Apr 9, 2003 #

cycling 30:00 [1]

Some time on the trainer.

Tuesday Apr 8, 2003 #

Note

I stayed up too late last night, tossed and turned at night, then got up too early this morning. I'm taking the day off and getting some needed sleep.

Two short, but hilly, O' courses at Weston Bend. The first took 20 minutes (6 controls), the second took 28 (12 controls). Orienteering in cool (38) temp with a light rain might be good practice for next weekend at West Point.

running 45:00 [2]

Warming up, jogging between courses and jogging back to the car.

Saturday Apr 5, 2003 #

running 50:00 [2]

Snorkel and I jogged around Wyandotte with a map.

orienteering 30:00 [3]

Mary designed some little control picking courses on the loop around Wyandotte. Snorkel and I took turns having a one minute lead. Except for one hideous downhill, the terrain was fun.

Friday Apr 4, 2003 #

cycling 30:00 [1]

Some easy time on the trainer.

Thursday Apr 3, 2003 #

running 55:00 [2]

Jogging at PNS.

running 20:00 [3]

4 x 3 minutes on the rocky hill on the east loop plus 4 x 2 minutes on the hill with the switchbacks.

Note

Most days I do a few light calisthenics in the morning. I haven't done any since I hurt my ribs (almost 8 weeks ago). This morning I tried. I did two very uncomfortable sit ups. That was enough. The ribs are still sore. I'll give it a try in another week or so.

Tuesday Apr 1, 2003 #

running 30:00 [2]

Jogging around at PNS. I saw a lot of people out in the park today. I guess it is the first time I've run there on a day with "nice" weather.

running 30:00 [4]
ahr:161

3 x 10 minutes at an honest effort (just barely) with 1:30 easy jog in between. I did the east loop (clockwise). It felt ok.
