running 1:05:00 [2]

I went for a run on the west side of the bunny loop. I saw the "walking lady." I hadn't seen her since before I got hurt. I threw in ten minutes at an honest effort. It felt decent. I made it as far as the first telephone pole past the fence corner.

orienteering 57:00 [5]

Day two red at Chicago. I had another decent day. My legs didn't feel strong. But the terrain was good for weak/tired legs (i.e. mostly flat and mostly open forest). By the end my hands were getting cold. I wonder if the temperature was falling? ST=339.

orienteering 1:02:00 [5]

Day one red at Chicago. I had a decent race and felt suprisingly good running. I'm definetly not sharp or strong. But, I didn't feel bad. It felt like a real race. The rain started just before my start time. ST=322.

orienteering 25:00 [1]

I jogged around a bit on the "model event" for the Chicago A-meet. I found a few markers. It was clear and sunny. Tomorrow should be cool and rainy. ST=307.

orienteering 45:00 [3]

Thursday night O' training at SMP. Keith L set up a mountain bike O' course. I expected the trails to be muddy (after recent rains), so I didn't bring my bike. I ran the course. The trails would have been ok for riding. ST=304.

running 20:00 [2]

That seemed like good advice. So, after some some cycling yesterday, I just shuffled around enough to warm up and break a sweat tonight.

cycling 55:00 [2]

I usually run on Tuesdays. But, my legs have felt a bit dead, so I decided to do some biking (less stress on the legs). My legs felt great when I started. Then I realized I had a tailwind. I did a couple of laps of the Bunny Loop and during each lap worked at an honest effort for a mile.

cycling 35:00 [1]

My legs felt dead when I woke up. I figured an easy bike ride would help. It did...I think.

running 1:30:00 [2]

I jogged around at Weston Bend. I carried the map and took a look at it now and then. It took a good 25 minutes to warm up. Once I was warmed up I felt pretty good. But, that only lasted about 10-15 minutes. Then my legs felt tired.

orienteering 2:02:00 [5]

PTOC had a 2-hour score O' at SMP. I navigated and concentrated reasonably well. My running didn't feel very good, though. The weather was great -- 50s and cloudy. I only picked up one tick. This was probably the last session in the forest until October (unless I do some O' tomorrow). ST=294.

running 20:00 [2]

I shuffled around for 20 minutes. It felt awful. Tomorrow is a 2-hour score O' at SMP. I hope I feel better then.

Thursday Apr 18, 2002 #

orienteering 20:00 [5]

2 short coures at SMP. Snorkel set some courses and Gene, Fritz and I ran them as mass-starts. There was some forking to make it a bit more interesting. I ran pretty hard. ST=263.

running 30:00 [2]

Warming up and picking up controls at SMP. It was a warm and humid day -- not so comfortable for running. There were a lot of ticks out.

Wednesday Apr 17, 2002 #

cycling 40:00 [1]

Some easy cycling (mostly on the bunny loop). I felt decent today, though my knee is stiff.

Monday Apr 15, 2002 #

Note

What happened to spring? Another hot day today -- 85+. My only excercise was pushing the mower around the lawn.

Sunday Apr 14, 2002 #

running 2:00:00 [3]

Snorkel and I ran on the horse trails at Rockcrusher. It was tough. We didn't run fast, but the trails were a bit rough and it was hot. It was mid-80s in the shade (and we were mostly in the sun) and we didn't carry enough water. Live and learn. I carried the O' map and read it a fair amount.

Saturday Apr 13, 2002 #

cycling 2:15:00 [1]

Biking with Snorkel. We rode from his place and did a combination of park roads, bike paths, country roads and mud tractor paths. The intensity was low, but I was tired by the end. We were close to a couple of huge square-headed dogs, but separated by a fence. A sign posted near the fence warned to "stay in your car, guard dogs."

Thursday Apr 11, 2002 #

orienteering 55:00 [2]

Hanging and picking up controls for the OK training at Wyandotte. ST=255.

Wednesday Apr 10, 2002 #

cycling 20:00 [1]

Just enough time on the bike to break a sweat.

Tuesday Apr 9, 2002 #

running 1:05:00 [2]

I ran on the west side of the Bunny Loop. I felt good and did ten minutes at an honest effort. It felt good, but I was not moving fast (I didn't even make it as far as the fence corner). There is a new dog on the Bunny (at the corner of Tiffany Springs and Amity). The dog was a bit scary, but at least it wasn't square headed.

Monday Apr 8, 2002 #

running 25:00 [2]

Chilly and rainy (with enough of a breeze to make my legs a bit cold).

Sunday Apr 7, 2002 #

running 1:30:00 [2]

Snorkel, Mary and I went up to Bluff Woods. I hadn't been there for years. It really is a good place to train -- big hills and (mostly) nice forest (if only it were a shorter drive). We carried the park map and USGS maps, but didn't do much map reading.

orienteering 16:52 [5]

The prologue at Monkey Mountain. I ran hard and had a good run. Snorkel was 16 seconds behind. Actually, Snorkel and a couple of other folks mispunched. Some of the markers were burried a bit and a group went to the wrong control. ST=239.

orienteering 34:15 [5]

Chase at Monkey Mountain. The chase was based on your place in the prologue rather than your time. You started 15 seconds after the leader for each place back. I started first, Snorkel (16 seconds behind in the prologue) start 15 seconds after me, Gary T. (a couple of minutes behind in the prologue) started 15 seconds after Snorkel. Snorkel and I were together most of the course. I ran hard and orienteered well. You can see my heart rate curve. ST=247.

running 25:00 [2]

I jogged around a bit. I saw an odd guy. He was slowly jogging around the field where the PHHS marching band practices. Every once in a while, he'd raise his hand, keeping his elbow bent at about 90 degrees, and yell "ha jee." It sounded like some sort of marshal arts yell. I caught his eye and waved, he yelled "ha jee" back. Strange.

Thursday Apr 4, 2002 #

running 1:00:00 [2]

I ran with Snorkel on the horse trails at Wyandotte. The trails are in great shape. They've recently cleared them (with some sort of bulldozer or something). It has been a dry spring and there haven't been many horses on the trails, so they're in great shape. Unfortunately, I'm not. I felt really unfit as I struggled to stay with Snorkel.

Tuesday Apr 2, 2002 #

running 1:10:00 [2]

I ran at Tiffany Springs. I jogged around on the trails for a bit then finished up with 3x on the grassy hill. It felt good.

cycling 40:00 [1]

Some easy time on the trainer.
