Note

Still struggling with the illness...though it is getting better. I'm planning to do no training until Sunday. On Sunday, I'll see how it feels and maybe do a bit.

I've been at the new job for 2 days. So far, so good.

I walked the brown course at the Tucson meet. That was enough.

Note

The plan was to be home last night. Snow and ice in KC closed the airport and American cancelled all of their Dallas-Love to KC flights. They offered to put us on a flight on Tuesday a.m. We bought a new ticket on SW and made it back to KC Monday a.m.

Note - Megan at the Crowne Plaza Hotel deserves a thanks....that other front desk person does not.

running 15:00 [2]

Jogging easy to warm up. Legs felt tired for a few minutes, then felt better than they'd felt all weekend.

Another fun day. I had a few little bobbles but managed to keep it together. Fun.

running 15:00 [2]

Jogging around to warm up. We'd expected cold and rain, but it turned out to be warm and just a few sprinkles (later starters got some heavy rain). No severe weather.

M40 at Texas A-meet. I ran pretty well and had a lot of fun.

T.C. (not to be confused with T.O.) was very kind to us -- kept the courses in the nice forest and didn't hide the markers.

running 10:00 [2]

Jogging around to warm up a bit.

orienteering race 14:40 [4] ***

Texas Sprint race. My legs didn't feel good, but I had a reasonably clean race and felt pretty smooth moving through the terrain. I improved my lifetime record in sprint races head-to-head against Anna (she walked the course).

Felt a bit strange at the start and decided, after just 15 minutes, to call it a day. I ran at Bonner Park and practiced first legs. Fun...except for not feeling very good.

running 45:00 [2]

Easy jogging on the latest version of the JCCC/Stoll Park map. Cold out there.

A sprint course on JCCC. I ran about as hard as I could. Fun. My actual running time was 19:25 (hence recorded on AP as 15:00).

I ran with the GPS and put the tack into QuickRoute. It looks like I tended to take it a bit easy as I left each control. Maybe it just takes me a while to get back up to speed after stopping at each control. More likely, I just leave each control a bit easy. There are probably a few seconds per leg to gain by getting back up to speed quicker. Or maybe not, I'll have to take a look at some other races.

Easy jogging at SMP to visit a few of the controls from the last Possum Trot.

Ran at an honest effort for 5 controls in the mtb trails section of SMP. Felt good.

running 25:00 [2]

Warm up and jog back to the car. There's enough snow on the ground that the running is a bit tough.

orienteering 20:00 [4] ***

A short course at an honest effort (quite slow absolute pace because of the snow) at Bonner Park. Felt ok.

Sunday Feb 3, 2008 #

running 30:00 [2]

Jogging around in the cold misty drizzle. Just before I was leaving to run, we had a mix of rain, sleet and snow (with thunder and lightning). With a temp of 35 and wind...perfect time to go out for a run. By the time I'd started the precip was lighter and the thunder/lightning had passed by).

orienteering 25:00 [4] ***

An honest effort on a 5 km sprint-y course on the JCCC basemap. Fun.

running 30:00 [2]

Jogging at Wyandotte - mostly on the roads, actually.

I saw a big hawk carrying away some sort of small furry animal. Maybe it was a groundhog.

2 x 20 minutes of line O'. The first stretch was really thick, crappy forest (but relatively few thorns). I ran with a GPS and put the track into QuickRoute where I could see just how slowly I was moving through the thick stuff. The second stretch was much nicer and I was able to move at a reasonable pace. My effort was just a little bit below a normal race effort.
