Hill bounding/ski walking 27:00 [3]

On one of my stops, to upper Cobb brook, I knew it would be a walk, so ran out there, then did 3x6min hillbounding up the backside of Glebe Mt., and then a 3min bound up the valley back to the car. Very treacherous footing, icy loose rocks covered with dead leaves and half an inch of snow meant that basically every step, the foot would twist one way or the other. The poles (which have rollerski ferules) would sink in to the mud, and then get stuck, so I had to yank them out forcefully with each step. Made for a very high-power, low-speed sort of workout. Wanted to do more but as usual I was racing daylight.

Managed to finish the West, except for Winhall, which I just don't have time to put out before I leave for Sweden, and the streams are already icing up. Damn. Still have 8 sites to do in the Westfield... eep!

An hour with Corey, then her dad picked her up and I turned around to meet the other group. Legs were in a world of hurt, from the track running. Mostly calves and hams. Good to have a group to ski with, helped the motivation - this sleep debt thing is getting a bit ridiculous.

Then on to VT to set out some more loggers, going well until it started snowing, which was awesome, except that they closed rt 100, which lost me about an hour of my day as I waited around, ate a cinnamon bun the size of my head, and then found a way around.

Got a phone call 5min into some core, and then got more busy and forgot about finishing the workout.
10 AM

Running 54:20 6.49 mi (8:22 / mi) +36m 8:14 / mi

To the track to actually run on it, this time. 4x1000m, 200m (~2min) rest. My head wanted to do more, but my body couldn't handle that sort of running, calves are wicked sore now. 4:12, 4:03, 4:01, 4:00. I meant to start slower and accelerate, so in that sense I was successful. Not looking forward to attempting to run a 3k at that 4min pace, that was hard.

Coaching Corey, first time classic skiing for her since the JO 5k last year. She did <8min of striding, and that was all her leg could take before it started aching, so we double poled the rest. Some drills, and I think that made her leg hurt more. Damn. My elbow was a bit sore, but not painful.

Managed to only bring 13 temperature loggers out with me when I left at 5:15am, and forget the wire cutters too. Should have had 30 with me. The good news is that I was able to make it back in time to go to lab, and got to rollerski in the daylight. The less-good news is that I have to go out again at some point soon, before it ices over. woot.

Decent workout, but its more fun with Ali. 4x no pole, triceps only, double pole, 5x single stick. Warmup was all kick double pole, cooldown all double pole. Sluggish, but not suprised by that.

Went out for a spin around the block, venting some frustration. L Achilles and both kneecaps unhappy.

Only got out two streams (four sites) today, partly my fault for navigating us down the wrong river early on. We only had the afternoon to work, and we're fighting for daylight, so that was a costly mistake. The upstream location was cake, right near a road, but the downstream location ended in a marsh, so we wanted to get upstream of the marsh, and the marsh was considerably larger than shown on the map. Three different approaches, and the third one worked, but still involved a km+ hike with all the gear. Breezed through the next stream, but by then we were out of daylight. Might have to stay here through Thursday morning if I can't finish the Westfield tomorrow... ugh. Not psyched. I want to go home.

To school and back, taking a full day off. Spent too long on my feet in the machine shop making more thermograph cages; that is actually quite tiring, standing up. Then I made nachos for dinner. So delicious!

Foam rolling calves. They're super knotty and tender, probably related to the charliehorses Friday night, but I remember them hurting pretty bad on the traverse, too, counterpart to my compartment-syndrome-shin hurt. Ugh.
